Question for Model Guys

I have a large battery operated plastic 55-57 Custom Thunderbird from the Ideal Toy Company stamped 1962. Approximately 18 " long, 4 1/2" high and about 4-5" wide.

Is anybody familiar with these? Any history appreciated.
