Well, this is my new project. This came from North Carolina via Stevie G (the BEST and I highly recommend!!) from Brock (34FrdTrk) here on the HAMB. It was going to get parted, and as beat as it is I just really didnt want to see that happen. So, this is about 1 day into it...fiddled with it last nite to get it running, took stock of everything, and got to it today at 4pm or so...

Pulled the front clip...actually quite a job due to rust. Pulled the bumpers, gas tank and cleaned it, cut out some wires and gutted the interior. Worked till about 8 then hit up Olive Garden....mmmm. Tomorrow Im contemplating pulling the engine+trans and then decide if it stays 351C powered or goes SBC. Id rather stay Ford, (as its already in it) but the mounts are kinda hillbilly and the trans lines puked out tomato soup looking stuff...so I dont want to get caught with a bum trans. Im going to see if I can scare up some 18 gauge next week and get some inner rockers and floors in, and see how far I can get before severe cold busts me up in my tight 1 car driveway.

BTW...thought it was funny to take a pic with my other 51, now relegated to the street with a car cover. My neighbors know I dig Mercs, one asked "so how many of these things you got?!?" :) Ill post some pics of progress if/when that occurs and if anyone cares.

  2. No '49-51 Merc is too rough...glad to hear it's being brought back.

Your neighbors gotta love you! Keep the 351C too, you'll be surprised how much power you can get outta one with little coin.

Man, you gotta move down here...you need need more room, and less neighbors to do that sort of thing!
Maybe Billy will visit me more often, if you're down here, too!
Good luck with it, you're going to need it!

I havent really looked at them outside a cursory look, but why so? They look OK to me but Im a steel wheel guy myself...

Yeah thats what I read, I had started a thread about it awhile back. Id love to keep it, even just because the mounts/radiator/etc are already in and it runs, but the trans fluid is sketchy. I think I might flush it out, swap the filter and cross my fingers. Maybe a bottle of Lucas for good measure. ;)

Brotha, from your keyboard to God's ears!! Even a 25x25 garage would be flippin sweet. If I can get the inner rockers and floors in before snow, I should be straight to fix all the other stuff inside piece by piece.

Not a chance, me and Chris hate each other, I never see him as it is. Haha, maybe I'll get down there soon, I'm free of projects, except for my own that is.

Once again, MY new project. I'm just paying you to build it for me!

    Please don't feed the animals...

So Chris, you'll have that ready for paint in a week or so? 36 grit right to base, haha! Get busy, I want to take delivery in one month.

Man that first pic is just cooler than ****. I'm speechless about the other Merc staying out on the street covered up. Maybe all the **** I hear about Jersey is just ********. If I left mine out overnight I'd never see it again. Good luck with the project!

Just gutted my 50 merc this weekend too, pulled about 5 hantavirus rat nests out of the interior. Not to mention the rear gl***, seats and 10 lbs of insulation from the headliner and panels... is that normal? Anyhow I'm in Hillside NJ we should get together like trick my truck and "LETS TEAR DOWN"
