Hi everyone, I'm wanting to see if anyone can help me out with finding some specs for an engine I'm looking to build. I've got a 58 348 250 HP engine. What I'm looking to build is basically the 60-61 350 HP engine. Obviously I'm going to have to change out the pistons to 11.25:1, and I've already got the tri-power setup, but here's where I'm having issues. What cam, and valve specs were in that engine? Any help would be appreciated.
Mighty, I've signed up there and I'm waiting for them to allow me to post. Thanks for the suggestion though.
You might get problems swapping newer heads on this engine if you have an early 58. I´m not quite sure but I heard they changed the design. There might be differences at the water passages.
According to my 1962 Motors Manual;High horse motor in '60 was 335hp. In '61 both the 348's(4bbl@340h.p. & trips@350h.p.) shared the same valve lash with the 360 horse 409. This probably means they shared the same cam. '60 was different.
Yep, they changed heads (added extra cooling around the plugs) in 59. If you try to use 59 and newer heads on a 58 block, you end up with water pouring out between the head and the block and onto the floor. Ask me how I know. Larry T BTW If you end up needing 58 heads, I think I have some. Let me know.
I have a friend that built a 348 a couple years back. When he started it water ended up in the oil. I wonder if he actually had a 58 block with 59 or newer heads? I will have this motor by next week. Thanks for posting that info.
Check out Aubrey Bruneau at http://www.bruneauperformance.ca/ He has been a great help to me in my second redo of my 58 348... Recommended a cam etc and sells stuff to.
Thanks guys, I've sent Aubrey an e-mail to see if he has everything to accomplish this. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has tried to do this. Thanks again.
