  2. Works best to heat the can up with a propane torch first, makes it mix better whn shaking it. Do it outside, the smell is nasty...............

  4. Hey, that's a great idea until the can explodes. A pot of hot water will do the same thing - without the open flame.

Spray can paint needs to be sealed to paint it right afterwards, unless you pony up to have real automotive paint put in a spray can to use. I used some of the rust control brown on my beater truck, but I also painted the actual paint on it with a roller. It's ugly as hell up close.

Tman is right, i primed my ranchero right before Paso Robles this past year on my own. never used a real paint gun till that day, it was actually really easy! pick up a cheapy paint gun at Long Beach Swap or Pomona borrow a compressor and the airline and buy a water trap and get a test panel to adjust the paint gun. just keep adjusting till the primer flows nicely and when you feel your confident enough begin shooting your car. felt good to do the job myself and actually see such a drastic change, it actually came out pretty decent and i know it will turn out 10 times better the next time i prime one of my cars, hell i'm ready to give actual paint a shot! all i had was some old paint and body work books to read and some magazine articles, and it was more than enough to get a rough idea of what i had in store for myself. give it a shot, whats the worst that can happen? just get some sand paper and sand it down and start over again dude! oh yeah and REAL primer coats much thicker, and nicer than a rattle can!

  8. Heck, you can buy an HVLP gun at Harbor Freight for what, $15? A cheap compressor and a moisture trap and you're good to go.

I went to the hospital last night after heating up the can. Typing with my toes now and looking through one eye...........just kidding. Thanks guys for the push I am used to doing everything myself "if you dont touch it, its not yours" goes for more than just your car. Ill do the spray gun and then post picks hopefully comes out nice. Also is anyone selling spray gun, compressor and moisture trap in the LA area.

I've owned a truck for over 20 years. I have painted it with that paint and that color. About the only thing I can say is that about every 3 or 4 years I usually give it another coat of the same stuff. A fair percentage of this truck still has the original paint under there somewhere, and I haven't seen any unusual problems with rust on the bulk of it. Of course the frame and front suspension are pretty much toast at this point, but I never bothered to paint them. But I do notice that after it rains, the paint looks "damp" for lack of a better term, so I know it's not shedding water as good as it should.

But the guys are right about doing it with a spray gun, and something other than primer, even if it's straight from the hardware store paint.
