    from nowhere...

You'll have to forgive some of these guy's, man...they live in a very, VERY narrowly defined world, where there is only ONE way to build things, usually based on a specific car, that is universally considered a "perfect example" of the era, which ever era it is that they feel is "hot roddings glory days" Its the same reason why there are more red deuce roadsters now than they built in 1932!
You should run all the same things as everyone else, and everyone will be happy that you had no imagination...
how about another set of lakes headers? nobody has them...
f- em...do what you like...It reminds me of my car a bit...there are things I like about it, and things I would change...but: Its damn cooler than having NO model A!
    enjoy!

Looks good, great start, your right on track (thumbs up) but since you asked...(remember were a tough crowd) :)

Loose the disks...not so "Traditional" per say. Im not a disk brake kind of guy, I like the look of drums...early style :)
Barbed wire...eh...use 1/8 or 1/4 hot roll to make a nice tube insert.
Tint....OMG  this is not a Boyd creation is it?

Lastly, these changes are what "I" like...not meaning you have to do for yourself. Build what "YOU" like and drive. Heh...at least its a driver. Again...good job.

i like it...not a fan of the barbed wire or the tinted windows, but the rest is pretty sweet.....o and the disks are kinda out of place, but some people value the extra stopping power over the slight loss of "tradition"

who is to say what a traditional rod is specifically? someone mentioned the 59 cad lights being "wrong", but whos to say that there were not any rods in the 60's with them? i love the look of them, especially when they are sunk all the way down so that the tip is flush with the sheetmetal....

Ask a question? Well, the most obvious jags for me are the fad-T headers and fake bugcatcher aircleaner. And other stuff as mentioned. But that's all fixable. It's also your car and thumbs up for having a go.

I couldn't have said it better myself! Thank you mister! Anyway, you've got a real nice line going on, I definitely dig it. Also, it is most certainly not riding too high. It would be a shame to have it looking like everyone else's. Bo-ring! Some people around here are not very good at constructive criticism. I like what you have going. I am also working on my first project. Congrats on having it on the road. I think if you avoid flat black you will be absolutely golden. Nice job, a lot of first attempts come out looking like abortions! And poo on anyone who can't think outside the box! :)

Thanks for all of the support and the criticism also. It's nice to hear both sides. There are things I will change and things I will leave alone. I have heard some of these opinions already and I take them all in stride, some I agree with and some I don't. Anyway, thanks for all the feedback, I appreciate it. CTJ

Not too high, you might want to run fenders someday. Radials may not be traditional but they sure do drive good. I think it looks good be proud of it.

I'd say you did a fantastic job for the first go around. My first one wasn't that nice....I'm not sure my latest is either.:D You should be very proud. Most first attempts never get started, let alone get driven. Ya done good!:D

I think that this is a great start. You didn't do anything too radical, so you can evolve the car as your tastes change. Would I change anything? Sure, but most of us would do that with just about any car we see if it were ours.

WTH? You built it with SAFETY in mind? What's the matter with you? I bet you even welded it with something better than a 110v cracker box arc welder. Disk brakes? Why you worried about stopping? Its all about the GO BABY!

j/k, if you're happy with it, that's all that counts. I happen to like it.

How much of the fabrication did you get to do? Got any build pictures?

Katula- It handles and drives great. Let go of the wheel at 60mph and it tracks straight as an arrow. Suspension is a little harsh obviously but this is no modern cadillac after all...I drive it almost every day when the weather is nice. Don't drive it to work but get it out in the evenings to roll around town.

Frank- I installed the front suspension, motor, trans, interior, gl***, all plumbing, wiring, brake components etc.

ALindustrial- I stole the cam idea from a car at Hunnert last year. Thought it was a cool idea.

Thanks for all the interest. CTJ

Good for you. You built something that pleases you AND your driving it. doesn't get much better than that. As far as changing anything it's already been stated that the car can evolve as your exposure to new ideas (new to you) makes an impression on you and how much you want to incorporate them into the car.
In the meantime drive the wheels off it and get used to the smile looking back at you when you look in the mirror.:)

Tinmann-Next I plan on building a pickup. Not sure what I'm using yet for a cab but I scored a really solid 28-29 pickup bed and tailgate 2 weeks ago. I'm looking for a model A frame, and a cab currently. We'll just have to wait and see what turns up.

Misfit- No interior pics. It's pretty basic, Mustang buckets and caravan rear seat covered w/ mexican blankets, red metalflake wheel, sun tach, full gages mounted under the dash, 32 style dash with nothing except the light switch mounted on it. I didn't want to cut it all up until I decided what gauges I wanted to use.

i just wanted to add something else to this thread.....

how come every time someone comes on here and posts something that they built the way THEY wanted to, people make fun of it and criticize it to no end? who cares if this car is exactly period correct, maybe he wasn't exactly shooting for a certain period, he just took elements from others cars that he liked and put them into one car that he likes....

what exactly is wrong with a 302? were there not SBF's in the 60's? i know that there were, and i am damn sure that several of them ended up in rods....

Good or bad, this board is about traditional rods and customs. If you post a pic of your car, and ask what people think, then be prepared to see how people view the car as a traditional rod or custom.

Introduced in 1962, the SBF comes to the "traditional" party a little late.

Fortunately, not everyone uses the same dictionary you do for "traditional". That's a pretty close minded response. Are you going to define "traditional" for everyone? No one can. He could just as well be building a "traditional" 60's rod. Get sick and tired of people on this silly band wagon. Its pointless. Just had to vent.

the-rodster? rodster? What is that, some Californian surf-dude talk slapping "ster" on the end of every thing? I seem to remember that came about around the 1980's....hmm....about the same time as Boyd and his "boydsters"? Or did you get it from that stupid Martin Short SNL skit?

I was just expressing my opinion, and was somehow able to do so without making fun of anyone's name, talking about surfers, SNL, or bringing up Boyd.

Thanks, Frank, for showing me how to keep a post on topic.

    Sincerely, Rich
