I have a set of the Streamlite wheels that I want to run on my A coupe. They are pretty rough cast wheels and I want to run them tubeless. Can any of you suggest a coating I could use on the inside of the wheels that would ensure they hold air? Do any of you run the Streamlights? What is your experience with them? All help is appreciated. Armstrong

Might be a good application for powder coat (just the insides).

  3. I have seen where guys who run the Magnesium wheels would paint the inside with POR 15 epoxy. The epoxy would seal the magnesium, to hold air, but it would hurt the resale value of the wheels.

I've got a set I'm working on. I could use a 4th if you come across one. I found my fourth but once I got it in hand it is cracked too much to be of use.

I painted a pair of mine with Eastwood cast iron gray header paint to get them to match my frontrunners. As thick as it lays down I'm sure it'd seal, although as thick as the aluminum is I'd bet it would seal anyway.

I bought a set of Skylark wire wheels from Wheel Vintiques and the spokes were sealed with silicone so they would run tubeless.

I've got a pair of Streamlites and need two more if any of you guys happen to come across another pair.

Just out of curiosity, why don't you want to run tubes? There's really nothing wrong with running tubes is there?

i paint all of my magnesium wheels with a oil base enamel ....brush it on and apply a couple coats....no tubes needed.....and if you watch the magnesium wheels that show up for sale...half are painted and a lot were done back in the day .....it beats a corroded wheel.....:D brandon

I wonder if you could brush on a coating of that stuff they put on trailer roofs. I think its a silicone. They sell quarts of it at any travel trailer place. Just an example

I painted the inside of my magnesium wheels with epoxy primer.

  11. I've used a good epoxy paint before, no need for the expense of powdercoating

Thanks for the suggestions guys. It sounds like the enamel paint would be easiest. I wish I could help you guys out with some wheels, but I got mine by accident. A friend who borrows my trailer told me he was going to build one, but if he could use mine he would give me the stuff he was going to use to build his trailer. It was an old camper ch***is with the Streamlites on it! I had the ch***is for several years until a guy wanted to buy it but didn't want the weird 16" wheels so I kept them. I found out later what they were through the HAMB. They now hold up my A coupe project.
