Looking for someone who has found a good zero balance dampener for the 371 Oldsmobile. The car is a internal ( zero balance) balanced engine , has Al flywheel and currently a 52 1 groove crank pulley. I wondered if anyone has made found etc.. a modern dampener that can work?

    Thanks

I am not aware of any dampner that will do the job. I did read an interesting article in a 1957 rod book on how they added plate steel to the 371 crank to get the balance internal balance. They were putting a 371 crank in a 324 motor. Steve

For all aspects the 56 324 is all most the same as the 371 minus the lump that makes it match the 371 external balance. The difference is that it is a little shorter as to the depth it slides over the crank. A spacer put on the crank to allow the 56 to slide up to it would get you to the same spacing so the double pulleys are in the right line up with the water pump pully and its a done deal. Inside, outside is the same , so it fits the crank same as the 371 ,,double pulleys are the same,,,only the 56 is zero balance. easy solution.

OR you could go big bucks and order a Fluidamper for a 455 interal balance , space the water pump and ect. to match and go from that angle.

    Thanks
I'll measure the clearance to the front cross bar and see if a 455 can go on it.
    Thanks
