Thats right. Although very few, some did indeed come with a 2 bbl.

I haven't advertised these cars anywhere but have had several people stop and want to buy them. The only offer I received was $1500 for the pair and I turned that down. I did tell him I would take $3000 for the pair, but I don't think he was serious in the first place. I mentioned the glove box was missing from the 64 but I found it in the trunk today along with a lot more chrome pieces. All of the windows are still good in the 64 too and they all roll up.

I'm thinking this is the 389 with a 4 bbl. I think I read if it was a 421 it would have had 3 2bbl.

Now, I'm not sure this is a Chieftan. I found a tag receipt and it's listed as a Star Chief. Are there any distinct difference in the two cars? The VIN on the receipt is P757H37088.

'57 Pontiacs came in two series, 27 & 28. The first letter in the VIN is the ***embly plant, the digit following that (in your case, the 7) is the series number, so this body is a series 27, which is the 122" wheelbase, which for a 2 dr hdtp would be a Chieftain or a Super Chief. If it was a Star Chief, it would have the 124" wheelbase, with the extra length in the rear quarters and trunk (what they used to call a "three-body trunk" cause you could stuff three bodies in it.

The Star Chief also had a stainless overlay across the bottom of the dash (including glove box and ash tray, etc), and the rocket in the rear quarter was covered in stainless. There are other differences as well, but the car looks like a Chieftain to me.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was sure it was a Chieftain until I found the tag receipt.

If interested in parting the 2+2, I would buy the console and tachometer. Let me know. Jason (740) 633-3424

That just makes my eyes well up with tears. Those cars ought to be towed away and given a decent home! Then the owners need to be caned for neglecting two fine automobiles!!:D

Before anyone gets upset...I was just kidding about the caning part.

If you're anywhere near Birmingham, I have a $100 bill for the hood on that 57 Pontiac. My brother could come pick it up.

  11. Amazingly, one of the pull-it-yourself yards here has a '64 Catalina ragtop about like that in the yard. At least they did 2 or 3 weeks ago. I woulda given the s**** price to throw it on ebay, it was at least as good as that one. No 4-speed or buckets though.
