My truck I was using for daily might be a bit new for this forum, but I figure someone could help. I swapped a 460/C6 into this truck in addition to doing power steering and power disc brakes.... I am at a standstill though. The engine seems to run OK but I have not driven it much due to the power steering issues. Nonetheless, it seems to diesel, the right front and left rear header tubes get cherry red.... I found the intake leaking so I changed the gasket to take care of the leaks... But the headers are still almost red at idle... I think the timing is OK, but it also seems to crank slow after running a bit as if the timing is too advanced. The timing marks on the balancer are questionable, though. It is a 72 460 with d0Ve heads, Weiand Stealth intake, Holley 770 carb, headers, Mallory ignition. The other issue is that I swapped power steering from some parts I sourced. It has a Saginaw pump from a 72 Lincoln (new) and a box from a late '60s truck. I had lines made at a hyraulic shop. I cannot get power ***ist out of it. The pump works but gets so hot and almost stalls the truck.... Is there a possiblity that there is resistance in the box? The lines should be hooked up right and the box turns.. Thanks for any help.
get rid of the power ***ist, but thats me, there a pain. sound like its running really lean, might have a clogged jet, find TDC and go from there on your timing,
You need to check the timing,if the headers are glowing red at idle most of the combustion is happening in the headers and not in the combustion chamber, way retarded, try advancing the timing while its running and see if it speeds up
