Well she might not look all that great at the moment but the is finally on the road. Took 3 months but she is there. I made the long trek home last night and she did great. Purred along at 60 mph with no problems. Body work is started and I'm driving her every day. Pistons and Paint here I come!
I'm going to do an open drive line conversion with a t-5 behind the '59 235. Then lower it some more, c-notch the frame, chop the top. Add 56 Packard taillights, smooth front bumper and a 56 Chevy bumper out back. Then french the head lights, custom floating grille or a 55 desoto grille, plus a couple of other mild body changes and extended skirts. Should be a fun project!
Yeah thats where it came from. I figured wasn't worth what I payed after I found all the bondo and rust. But hey there is more to fix. That means more learning opportunities!
Yes they finally fit. I beat and banged till they fit and then used a pin system to keep them in line.
I've always liked that car...seen it change hands a couple times between HAMBers. Sounds like you've got a good plan for her...keep the progress pics coming. Bryan
Congrats on getting her running. Looks like the Fairlane isn't going to make it to P&P tomorrow unless a miracle happens. I'll keep an eye our for your ride when we get there.
I know right! It has 3 inch lowering blocks and worn out springs but that isn't going to cut it. The front is getting dropped uprights and Jamco lowering springs. I have a set of posies super slide springs that are for the late model rear conversion. As soon as i can find a rear that will fit and notch the frame it will look awsome. No bags for me!!!
...NICE! good work my man! ...i'm planning to use 56 FRONT bumper on my 49 coupe...i take it you were refering to the "rear" bumper? -marty
Yes the rear bumper. it will match the shape of the extended quarters and the packard tail lights pretty well with a bit of tweeking. I can't decide what to do with the front bumper yet. I guess it depends on what grill I use. I'm thinking chrome floating bar in a merc style surround with the area behind it blacked out. Or a Desoto drill and a smooth front bumper. Any ideas?
...the floating bar idea sounds bad***. i personally think the 53 grill looks brilliant by only adding more teeth
awsome. I might be picking up a 53/54 2dr (best price ever... FREE) and I'll probably end up bagging it what kind of ride hight are you gonna be going for?
3-5 inches from it's lowest piont. I guess that would be the crossmember? I don't know what that would translate to as far as the body goes. I figure 4-6 inches.
