Hello everyone, I just picked up a rusty old 1950 Ford 2 door sedan.I always wanted one of these models. I`m gonna chop the top and build my first hot rod.But first I`m going to do my homework, and research all I can about the pros and cons of building a hot rod. I am a mechanic, but I have never done body work yet, so I`m going to have to learn the basics.I`ll keep you posted on my progress.

Thanks for the welcome. Yes,I do remember seeing Miller & Brown Trucks as far as Wpg. They are no longer in business.Creston is a nice area ,lots of cool cars in that neck of the woods too.

  4. Welcome from Port Coquitlam B.C. good to see another Canadian on here. Good luck with your project.

  5. Welcome from another BC resident and old time rodder. I have a bud in the Okanagan that just finished a 4 inch chop on a 47 Chrysler more door and did a beautiful job. The reason I mention it, is because even though he has been rodding since the 60's, it was his first chop and he did the whole job in his home garage all by himself.
He took pictures of the car, enlarged them, and cut and fit the pieces until it looked like it could work. Anyone with some photoshop skills could do the same basic thing using a computer.
I chopped and channeled a 34 Ford 1/2 ton myself, but that isn't in the same league as what you are planning.
    Good luck,
    Bob

Welcome from another BC'er & fellow shoebox owner. I am currently working on a chopped but otherwise mild kustom 51 Ford Tudor.

  7. Howdy! from Texas, used to have a little British Canadian girlfriend from Vancouver, her tall tales are some of my favorite memories.

I'm in the same boat as far as never having done body welding, but have been reading as much as I can, and have traded for a nice wire feed(mig) and am almost ready to set up a "heliarc"(slang for tig). Gambino did a nice thread on chopping a shoebox, you can do a search, and also the Mad Fabricators video has BobBleed chopping one in a different way, both turn out gorgeous! PM a member named Richard D and he can fill you in on where to get the videos, in fact he can help you find the Gambino thread if you have trouble. Wish you the best, and the folks on here love to see photos, so go ahead and do a post, or look for a shoebox post, and put some more of your car on there. The way it works is when you add to a thread it comes back to the top, no matter how old it is. So before you start another, do some searching, keeps things more organized. LEE!
