was wondering if there is a way to remove the white letters that are on the sidewall of a tire, i've got big firestone tires on my 62 gmc 3/4, was thinking about just spraying it black, but you would be able to see that i just painted it. thought maybe a sander would do? anyone ever had to do this? or am i just an idiot? lol thanks for any info.
You cant sand them off, do a search. Cant you just turn the tires around? I guess if wanted the raised part gone you could sand them before blacking them out. But under that white letter is more white rubber. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=213440&highlight=whitewalls+black
I think you will find more white trying to grind off the letters.. Many grind down to the white to make whitewalls.
The used to be a product called "Tire Black", it was a paint like product just for that purpose. It was different than regular paint. I have painted whites and put them on backwards, after a few heat and cool cycles, you cant tell the white was ever there.
I think you will find the whole sidewall is white, the more you rub. As garvinzoom said, can't you just turn 'em round? Yes painting sidewalls with an acrylic black paint will work and should last a while at least.
be different and run them anyways..who knows you might piss off every one here, but who really cares there your tires.
Lil' Billy have you gone tire shopping lately? Turn them around, tire black works fine, unless you are real ****. If you are real ****, listen to Lil' Billy.
***** is 2 years ago recent? I got tires with no white letters then. I figured he'd already thought of just mounting them with the white letters facing in and didn't want to do that. Nothing **** about my suggestion. Just seems common logical sense that if you didn't want white letters you wouldn't buy ones with them. Ya know?
Most of the major tire manufactures sell short, fat, ugly "O" ring sporty tread style tires with white letters that the typical American sheeple think are KQQL. If I find a tire, after looking at lots of tires, that is just what I was looking for, the right diameter(tall), the right width(skinny), a pleasing tread pattern, and at a reasonable price, but it has white letters, I would consider flipping the tire and painting the lettering black. The specialty tires, that have the "look", that I have tried, and have been very disapointed in, are too expencive for their quality and performance, and how many miles you get out of them. I guess I'm too **** when looking for just the right tire!
