Ok. I busted my **** for the last couple of weeks [really months] to finish my 50 Chevy truck for Pistons & Paint today! It's got a healthy 350 with a freshly rebuilt th 350 ******. I got everything in and finished up late last night only to have ****** problems when I got it out to test drive. Everything was fine, I got on the highway and it started slipping. I took the next exit and coasted to a stop. I wouldn't move forward or reverse. Fluid level was low, I added about a quart and a half. Now it pulls but wont shift out of first. Any suggestions to try before I pull it back out?? By the way, I did at least make Pistons & Paint but I went in the ole lady's Tahoe. Show was great as usual. Thanks, Casey
do you have va*** to the modulatoor needs about 16 inches to shift and check the govenor for a sheared off plastic gear .
i'll be sure to check both. I did forget to mention that I did a record smokey burnout just before i got on the highway and it started slipping. Maybe that gov gear lost a tooth or two, huh?
It will shift even without the modulator it will just be late. The govener overides the modulator.Besides looking for a stripped govener gear look to make sure the valve in the govener is moving freely.Just hold the govener up and move the weight's up and down and watch the valve through the slots. If it' stuck just remove the gear and pull valve oput and clean it .hope this helps. i took the gov cover off and i guess it is moving freely. the weights seem really loose. Im not sure what exactly to look for? is the gear inside of the weights? i didnt want to take it apart and not get it back together.
i have a 65 gmc now and i need help on it.the 350turbo will not shift or move if i have it in drive from a dead stop it will shift if im moving above 30,but if i put it in first and shift manually it runs perfect through all three gears with a little lag going into second after i shift it,and when i stop i have to put it back into first to move whats going on
could be the low/reverse roller clutch is slipping...so you have to engage the low/reverse plate clutch by putting it in LOW to get it to move forward. There are other possibilities, pretty much all of them involve rebuilding the tranmission too.
