Buick made factory dual carb intakes in '41-'42, and a four barrel intake in '52 for the large engine, but I'm afraid that the Dynaflow is going to absorb a good percentage of any extra power you make.

Do a search for "Buick Straight 8" - there are lots of good threads here on the subject.

Like Heathen said, the Dynaflow is a big reason it's slow!

Not that it's traditional, but a couple years ago I saw what appeared to be a "recently pulled out of the chicken coop" 1949 Century (I think it was, it had the "big" straight 8) that had a turbocharger on it. It wasn't pretty, just plumbed with some bent up exhaust pipe, but it did bring the old girl to life. Not sure how long the old I-8 would hold up to a lot of boost, but I expect it could live for quite a while with just a few lbs of puff every now and then.

i must say that my stock straight 8 263 has got new life with the 700r4 trans and the 3.42 gears. its not fast, but i can surely get out of the way so to speak. i wouldnt mind building a nice set of headers/intake similar to what Jyrki built. really gives that big eye your talking about.

last night we went nose to nose, me in my Buick, my friend in his 49 Cadillac 350/350 combo, and my other bud in his 51 Fleetline I-6 with 3 on the tree (he had no hope) but it made for a hell of a good time. my straight 8 stayed on the Caddy's passenger door up to 3rd gear when i let off.
