i still haven't got the galaxie home because we cant move it as the brakes were all locked up tighter than a ticks *** (the car has been sitting since 73).....

i got the frront drums off by putting a scissor jack against the frame and edge of the drum and just cranking on it until the broke loose....but i tried this on the rear and quickly discovered that it will not work because the drum has to come straight off because of the lugs....

any help would be greatly appreciated, i need to get the car home ASAP so that i can start pulling the drivetrain

IF ... you backed the adjusters all the way off ... :)

I have had to take a chisel and break the drum. :(
I have also cut the retaining studs ( that hold the springs ) , knocked the wheel studs out. Then the drum would come off ... along with the shoes ...

I did the second method ... on 57 - 59 Fords ... because the brake drums for them were difficult to come by ...

I have also had to break some off. Once they get a crack they break apart pretty easy. BFH!

Heat 'em and beat 'em. I've had to do this a couple times and heating up the drum (pretty damn hot with the torch) around the exterior where the brake shoes stick to them seems to help. Also, heating the surface against the axle that tends to rust together, could help.

Sometimes i have pried the backing plate away a little and beat the shoes in with a chisel and hammer.Sometimes you can save the drums this way .The 49 chevy brakes i used on the front of the Raunchero had been sitting since atleast the 70's and i saved them ,along with the wheel cylinders that i had to beat the cups out of with a wooden hammer handle and a ball pin.Took me a while and lots of penatrating oil ,and several skined knuckles...

i think i might just beat the living hell out of them with the claw of my BMFH (24 oz framing hammer)

maybe they will crack...drums are easy enough to find for a galaxie...

i do not have access to a torch or i would have already heated them up (already thought about it) and if that failed, just torched the ****ers off.....

i'm not really worried about saving them, the rearend will probably end up in an offroad project with disks on it...

If you have a water hose close by then soak them and use a sledge hammer to beat them off. Ron
