Sounds like a blast, unfortunately I'm short of funds (and PTO at work) to do that.

here is the link to the show and yes I will be headed over - I hope to get some good pix and some video........will also be selling some stuff as well.......
anyone out there know of any good hot rod related spots to check out in Tokyo or Yokohama?

I am really wanting to see if there are any other places around besides the Mooneyes shop in Yokohama - that will most likely be closed on Sat. that I am in Yokohama............

I think Weesner is headed over - that is what I got when I talked to him at the Hunnert - he was giving me some good advice on where to stay and who to speak to - so I hope this first show is a success........
I have done tons of toy shows in Tokyo - but no hot rod shows in Japan - should be a different crowd..................
    although -
I saw 1 guy at the Autorama in Detroit that I ALWAYS see in Tokyo - I stopped him and said - HEY - what are YOU doing here..........
he said his car was downstairs!!!!
He had his car flown over from Japan to be in the Autorama!!!!!
    wow

    amazing

    Yep....the Yokohama show!!!

Not many hotrod associated shops within miles of Tokyo, but if you wanna see the freakiest locals, Shibuya/Harajuku are the go (30 mins from Yokohama)!!!!!! I'm available if you want the tour!

As for the show itself, its MUCH smaller than it looks in the magazines!

I got ONE spare bed in my Tokyo Apartment for the budget-minded jetsetter!

    WTF??????????????

"Natto" is fermented soy beans.....but you'll be glad to know that all appropriate products in convenience stores etc are labelled as"beer no tomo".......'Beer's Friends'

as for hang overs....thats what gf's sushi is for:D

so do you mean this show is small in size? as in # of cars - or small in the amount of people that show up?

just curious so I will have the right expectations............

as for Shibuya - yes I am very familiar with that area - have seen cool cars there - but never any traditional rods or customs

  15. I just got back from Yokohama, so unfortunately I don't think I'll be headed over there until after the new year. Take lots of pics though!

  16. I just left as well. Will be back the middle of the month so will probably miss show. Next year though... I should be in residence late spring..

About 200 cars and 10 000 spectators trudging through.....walking straight past Gene Winfield ("why the hell is that odl guy here????")to look at some lowrider that some dude has imported and pretended he built hisself while some try hard 'lockabirry' band is onstage murdering Buddy Holly all over again...its just that Mooneyes seem to subsidise(?) some gaijins to be there to give it more cred to assist local ticket and t shirt sales.

oh, and about 200 kustom bikes.

Some lady from "Trophy Queen" selling hot lod handbags was ripping it up last year....she just had to agree to take a pic with each purchaser!!!!!!

Bottom line.....my hospitality is here on offer if anyone's coming;)

btw....last year at this show, Gene told me he learned new hammer welding techniques and shit when he was in Yokohama in the service (around 51 ????) :D .....bloody LEGEND!!!!

so........Mark In Japan - you think that the Rat Fink stuff wont sell over there?

also - are you based in Yokohama?

or do you just go there from time to time ?

The Washington Hotel is sold out - where else do you suggest?

Mandarin Hotel is sold out as well..........

do you know the Marutani Hotel?

I dont know if they are sold out on Sat night or not.........

Are you going to go to the pre party?

It is Sat Night and costs 2000 yen - I figure I gotta go - hopefully have access to filming some of the cars that night before everyone comes in

I watched the Mooneyes 2006 dvd last night - had never actually watched all of it all the way through - and yes there are only about 1/8 of the cars that are really cool - but I am a huge fan of all cars so I think I will like the show - some of the tuner stuff is what I am not into but I can appreciate what they are doing

but it will be a good experience and I will try my best to pay for the ticket by selling my Rat Fink stuff over there.............

    speaking of which......
I need to post another thread real quick - I gotta find out what you guys think some little magazines are worth
