Local guy screwed up a retro of a 1940 Ford Chopped Sedan. Found a 1939 Body to chop and replace the existing ,in good shape. Any one know if the bodies are the same.
yup. They're the same...only difference was in the hood and head light / tail lights. And the hood is only different if it's a 40 deluxe compared to a 39 deluxe
39 Standard bodies have a different cowl and the 40 hood and fenders won't match up. And all 39 bodies have a different windshield mounting area. 39's have a frame and 40's just use rubber.
OK...Guess I've been corrected. I did not know about the cowl difference. I guess when I get to working on my 40 sedan I'll have to keep that in mind since I still don't have a hood...well no, because I already have the 40 deluxe grill, so I have to get a 40 deluxe hood. Oh well either way I learned something today....thanks alchemy
Different wiper mounting, too. '39s are above the crank-out windshield, while '40s are mounted to the cowl. I would imagine that a '39 Deluxe is similar enough to a '40 that it could be adapted to fit with revision to the mounting details of the windshield and wipers, though, no?
Now, youse guys are getting down to the nitty gritty. You forgot the different humps in the firewall for the heater, or the small holes on the decklid for the rectangle emblem, or the different holes for the door handles, or the more elaborate window moldings, or the radio antenae hole in the roof, or, or, or......
He probably followed the directions in old school rodz.. I cried seeing the osr issue of "eddie paul" cutting a 40 sedan into 50 parts..
Hey My 39 has the wiper on the cowl and my windshield is in rubber not a frame.......................Oh yeah Mine is a convertible. Oh well I guess I should have thought about that first. LOL
