401 nailhead..what to do with it?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Snegrah, Nov 14, 2007.

  1. I just got a complete 63' 401 nailhead dropped off at my door including the Dynaflow tranny. Looks good. It came from a running Riviera. What the hell should I do to this? Something like multiple carbs is a must...what's it going in...I dunno. Maybe an engine stand first then a gasser? These things are pretty and should be seen and heard. Any photos that you can share?

    Thanks,
    Tom

Excellent hot rod motor. These things are torque monsters, and come stock with pretty stout cams. Speed equipment is available, and the engines have a unique look with their vertical valvecovers. Tommy Ivo's favorite powerplant for his famous dragsters back in the day.

  14. Hey -- gettin' close. 168 miles on the clock and I've got the mechanicals pretty-much dialed in. Just finished up the floor mats and the door panels, kick panels, shoulder panels, seat back & bottom. I'm not as talented as you Rolf, I'm taking them to a local guy to get 'em covered.

You are just being polite :D, your RPU speaks for itself. ...and it shows excellent use of a nailhead. Look forward to the interior pix.

I also have a 63 Riviera Engine on a stand in my garage, came out of a running car, complete with factory finned aluminum valve covers, paid $100.00 for it last year from a long time friend. The only thing missing is the fan pulley. I am trying to figure what to put it in that will be CHEEP, LIGHT and FAST. A model A is far out of my budget these days as I am retired, have been thinking about an old pickup cab on a simple frame with no fenders etc. Or may use it in a 40 Ford pickup, that I still need lots of parts to build, I will see where life takes me.
Good luck with yours, put it good use.
