I have been feeling empty since I let the fleetline go to a new home and tonight I have found something to help fill in the hole. Its a 57' Pontiac Laurentian hardtop. Little rust, super nice interior, super nice chrome, and has been basically in storage since 1983. Still has H78 bias ply tires on it! Since its a Canadian car, its built on a 57' chevy chassis, and has a blown up 67' 327/300hp engine in it (steel crank small journal, with 462 heads), It is a quadraport, but with the hardtop, it looks killer with the windows down. It also has fresh brakes with a front disk conversion, dual resivior master cylinder, 10SI alternator conversion, and a shift kitted TH400 swapped in. Did I mention its a factory black car? Current plans are to replace the 327 with the fresh 350 I have sitting here, lower it, chome reverse wheels and fresh rubber, fix the one rocker panel, and any other issues that crop up and enjoy the shit out it! Best part is that it only cost me 18 $100 bills.
Ya stole that one - I'd sell mine for the same money, but it's a US version 4dr post which while solid, has no motor or trans (would come with one, I have a couple choices) and has been used by people as a parts car a couple times, I've been gathering pieces to make it complete again off and on for years. The car I was going to get a '57 steering out of and some other pieces I think finally was scrapped in the spring.
Ha ha ha ha! I caught that right off the bat. I think STOLE is a very faint term right about now.........lucky bastard.
Damn typos- fixed it. Too excited over the car I might shave the rear door handles and call it good. There is some damage to the drivers rocker panel and rear door from what looks to be an old accident repair. I might be looking for a new rear door. The car definately needs some work, but I have a soft spot for black canadian pontiacs.
Great car-good for you. I think the 57 pontiacs are sooo underrated, and the 4 door ht is better looking than the chevy 4 door ht. Hate that vertical cut for the back door in the insert on the back quarter. Anyhoo, I have a 56 chev. 4 dht and think it is by far the best looking of all the 4 doors, and wish I had shaved/painted in the back door handles. Great score, congrats.
Probably wouldn't help you much....This is a Canadian Pontiac which used 57 Chevy suspension. That's only about $1800 Canadian these days...................
yeah - its factory built on the chevy frame and suspension. Balljoints, weak rear axle, and 5 x 4.75" bolt pattern. Uses a chevy floorpan. The wheelbase difference is in the front fenders apparently. Good thing it came with a NOS set in case the ones already on it ever go bad
I have a dumb question,to get the added wheelbase they just welded an extention in the frame or what? Nice car by the way, I never met a black Canadian or seen his car but it looks good to me.
The Canadian Pontiacs have the same wheelbase as a 57 Chevy.........since its a 57 Chevy frame. The shape of the front fender may make it look a bit longer. The American Pontiacs were longer in the area in front and behind the rear wheelwells. Black Canadian???.............I know lots.......... Rick....Do you belong to the Canadian Pontiac Club? http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/thecanadianpontiacclub/
nope..it shares the same wheelbase is it's chevy counterpart...black canadians aren't as long as americans...wait,let me re-phrase that.. lol...the canadian pontiacs have a shorter wheelbase...no need to stretch the frame at all.
I don't belong to the canadian pontiacs club. As said above, it uses a stock 57' Chevy frame. The front fenders are different I am told. The distance between the front wheel and the door is less, so they shortend the fender there. I am ditching the keystones and getting some chrome reverse rims with bullet caps, and lowering it a bit. It might have a bent rear axle so I am getting the rear end looked at. I might swap in a camaro axle.
