they are hard to find,i have a set on my 51 chevy, and some dude up the street was trying to trade me all kinds of shit for them, everything but the kitchen sink.
There is some on ebay for like $250-$350 right now. Some one here on the hamb also said that Canadian Chevy's came with one piece bumpers. I cannot confirm that though. I am going to hopefully go with punkabilly1306 and weld up my three piece that I have. I figure while I am at it I can eliminate the bumper bolts as well as size them to perfection. But then again I still have get good at welding so it may be a while.
i heard that california had the 1 piece bumpers because they had different safety restrictions...or something like that?
i have seen this topic come up many times, and i never get an answer either.. i need one for my 54 too, but unfortunatly my 3 piece bumper is too bent to weld up
i welded my front an rear. and smoothed the bolts. easier than you think. an looks goooood!! other than that i dont know where to buy them sorry.
I bought a pair of chrome 1 piece smoothies at Carlisle about 5 years ago. Bumper Boyz from California. Big bucks. Woodrow
The insurance companies wanted three piece bumpers to keep costs down. California and canada were the only ones with the nuts to stand up to the ins. co.'s.........
did the chome hold up? i have 2 sets of bumpers chome all went bad in less than 2 years very poor work sorry o/t
I ain't scared to weld them up, however I am wondering about the plating bill. How much is it gonna cost to have them re-chromed after I weld them up???
I would think that your plating bill would depend on how good you weld them up and how straight they are. If they have to reweld or fix your welds and straighten the bumpers it will affect the cost. I would estimate $200-$500 to replate depending on how nice a job you want and how good they are. Pat.
If you get hit by a 1950s car with a one piece bumper or a three piece one it ain't gonna matter, yer legs are gonna be crumpled either way.
