  2. Colt 45 stands out as the first stang gasser, 65 or 66 winternationals the Chevy powered mustang stood up on the back bumper in the lights and still won 2 times till it made a horseshoe out of their straight axle on the third run. running 140 scarry stuff man!

there was a 65/66 stang coupe that ran at raceway park/englishtown in the late 60's, early 70's , it was chopped, straight axle, blower motor, hugger orange, owned by the Jegou brothers out of east brunswick, n.j., it was a bad ass piece, maybe someone on here from the NJ area can post pics - big john

Back in the late 70's there were a bunch of cars running straight axles in Nor Cal. One being a really nice 69 Chevelle. It was a cool look back then. So that look went all the way until then at least around my area.
In fact it was cool until the Pro Street/wanna be Pro Stock, tubbed lowered thing came about.

  9. I remember seeing this car run in the late sixtys. It was bad ass.
Auxier had a few Mustangs during this era, that fit a bunch of different classes. They all were strong runners.

I believe this photo was taken at Atco, N.J.
Man does it bring back memories.
Sanderson, please keep us posted on your progress.

Hell yeah !! That said a Fastback would look nicer I think. Look uo Tommy Grove, Gas Ronda, Jerry Harvey, Darrell Droke Holman& Moody. they all had Mustangs worth looking at for ideas. I always liked the Long Nose cars from around 66

Is that the art morrison frame? My front track width is 45 inches from backing plate to backing plate. The 46" axle might have to be shortened a bit...Ill see about some pics of the tear down soon.

I'd say go for it but maybe move the axle forward a few inches and run fenderwell headers....I would also suggest if you open the rear wheel wells not to just jigsaw them out, cut the wheel flare out a few inches above the lip and then find another stang or buy some patch panels for a wheel opening and piece them together to creat a stock looking wheel opening only larger and taller to accomidate some big meats....IMO the wheel openings hacked open Round to the top of the qaurters looks horrible, I know in the day it was the trick but still looked cartoonish......

I cant believe there aren't more Malco Gasser or Mr. Gasket Mustang clones.

I think it would be very cool, but you need to be very careful about setting up the front end.

Parallel leaf springs would be a big no-no. It would sit way too high.

I dont think there is anything you can order out of a catalog today that would look right.

A custom drop axle with hairpins or a custom made 4 bar setup with coil over shocks would be the look IMO.

Wheel and tire selection would also be critical. Real magnesium wheels with late 60's M&H Racemasters or Goodyear Blue Streaks would also give the car the right vibe.

That should work for you. I have a 4 in. drop in my Falcon. 48'' king pin to king pin is good width on Falcons, should also be good for an early Mustang. I got my whole setup from Speedway, no complaints & works great.

Ive been doing a lot of research on this lately, seeing as I want to put an axle in my 63 comet, so I'll give you some info I think might help. I'm going to use a narrowed econo axle, as per March 2005 Hot Rod magazine and the new Hot Rod Deluxe, but for your setup I think a straight tube would look better. You can buy a 1-piece fiberglass tilt frontend for mustangs that would be perfect, but if you intend to drive it a lot, I would suggest a well built rollcage in the event of a collision. They don't make squat for pre-64 comets so I'm stuck with an all steel body and I'm too poor for cool stuff like a cage or a motor that will make it fast enough to legally need it. I would definately move the front wheels forward a bit, proportional to how much you lift it. Just don't butcher the fenderwell trimming if you do. I wouldn't tub it, just get rid of the bumpstops in the rear and let some rubber hang out. You can get taller leaves for the back and a straight axle in the front and it would be wicked. Use the stock steering box. You can even leave it where it is, but you MUST use cross-over steering, where the pitman arm is connected to the passenger side spindle. Connecting the box to the drivers side would probably put you in the ditch if you hit a pea at 70mph. Ditch the back seat and any options, but keep at least a rubber mat. I always thought bare interiors looked crappy unless its something that never came with carpet. Oh, and don't put a hoodscoop on it unless it needs one. And it had better need one!

    That sounds pretty cool.

It would have been neat to see it with the sheetmetal on and even neater to see it moving instead of just revving up.

    Any more video out there??

just bought a 65 mustang coupe , in show condition for $800 (no that's not a typo), yup, only one problem.. the rich kid that owned it ran the dam thing into a knee high steel pole , so it needs a new front bumper, grill, radiator, and the rest of the chrome dress up parts...oh and a new front clip...so im going hack off the bent crap and strait Axel it and raise the ass a bit and make it a traditional Gasser and drop in a big block, screw opinions, im doing it come hell or high water... there will be build pics.
