What can I expect a reasonable shop to charge for this? Needs the foam redone, and probably just some simple white tuck and roll. 57 chevy.

Hey man. I'm down close to 20 and Green Oaks on the North Side. Trying to get my interest level back up in this thing and explore some options.

I wouldn't be able to move for a month if I took this thing on a road trip right now with the seat in the lackluster condition it's in. Otherwise, it'd be game on!

Isn't he the guy that did the black and white button tuft Merc a while back? I could DREAM of affording an interior that badass.

If you are referring to Mercury Charlie's Merc, the interior was done by an old guy who came outta retirement to do that job if I remember correctly. That interior is bitchen, almost as wonderful as one of Fat Luckys.:D

I was quoted like $120 for real basic, $240 for black and pearl vinyl with tuck and roll inserts. I gave up on the guy though, he was so busy he never wanted me to bring the seat in. Supposidly he does good work though, and for that price it sounds like a deal.

Yep, that was it. I've still seen some of FLs work an been impressed enough to remember the name; just can't place it. I think it was in a rag a year or two ago.

  17. $400 including foam and materials at Paco's Custom Upholstery in Roseville. It was a friend of a friend type deal...

  19. I used an EZ-Boy seat cover and installed it myself in a 59 Chevy.
I'm no upholsterer but the quality of the cover is great and I can get matching door panels.

If you have a broken seat plan on spending a little more than listed above. Replacing or repairing broken springs, foam is really expensive these days, etc. all will be on top of the upholstry cost.

Is your 57 the one I see at the Firestone on Green Oaks/Little Road??

To get a quality job done, I mean rebuilding the seat with nicer springs, lots of new foam cut and fit to make your back happy. Also being able to test fit the seat as many time as it takes and make any adjustments before it is finnished is going to cost you. We are talking $1500 - $2000. I know it's a lot but it is well worth it. The guy who would do it did the interior on Jimmy Vaughn's white 53 ford. He does amazing work and will make you happy.

But if you are on a budget then he isn't the guy for you. I just don't think that you will find anyone to do what you need for less than a grand.

Just a thought... but everyone bitches about companies outsourcing to foreign countries, and foreigners taking our jobs... yet the first thing anyone does when the topic of upholstery comes up is reccommend going south of the border for a cheap job... aka "outsourcing"

I paid $600 for front and rear seats for my 52 Chevy in white tuck and roll a couple of years ago. The front seat was out of a pasture car and needed some of the springs rebuilt, all new padding, (and a good bath), but the rear seat was nice. The guy did excellent work. If anyone in central Oklahoma is interested, I will get them information.

No, I work over in Grand Prairie, and it isn't a daily. Might end up being one inadvertantly if my wife sells her car tonight. I've actually talked to you at the uta Mcdonalds awhile back. It still had Ralleys on it back then. Yack.

  29. Another great product for panels is a foamed PVC board called Sentra. It can be purchased from graphic art/sign supply places. We get ours from Glantz and Sons here in KC. They sell a less expensive no-name brand. I like it better than ABS because it responds better to adhesives. I use quality CA glues(super glue) to bond it when layering or building structures, and standard spray contact cement(weldwood) to attach fabrics. It also does not melt back together when cutting with a sabre saw. The really cool thing is you can heat and bend it without distorting like ABS.

Oh, just to stay on topic...We would bid that seat job at $500-$800 depending on materials and base repairs needed.

Try Fat Luckys. Things like the materal that you choose if springs have to be replaced and things of that nature effect the price. His quality is well worth whatever you pay.
