Awesome! Love this style of Kustom. Might have done it a little different with the headlights myself, but that's OK I could'nt even carry this guys jock whomever did the bodywork. Fabulous.

I saw him in Pleasanton and spoke with him for a few minutes. He had said that it was an original Barris that he just finished restoring, and making a few changes:confused:

Looks like a DeRosa build to me. I wouldnt call it a 40's custom. Not with Cadillac bumpers and Dagmars, Buick headlights, and headlight scoops. Its more of a mixture of several eras, doesnt fit into any one period. You wouldnt ever see the above mentioned stuff on a true 40's style custom (first because they didnt exist yet, and second, becase the style of some of the mods is from a much later period). The headlight scoops are a late 50's thing (looks interesting, I have never seen a 40's car done up with headlight scoops before). The taillight treatment is more like an early 60's thing. The interior upholstry is more early 60's like with a modern twist. The dash and tolt column is clearly very modern too. The stance is modern as well.

Unfortunately, the rear bumper is extremely out of place, and the front ones dont blend in too well either, IMO. The caddy dagmars on the front are out of proportion for this era car.

Regardless, its very cool to see a Carson top 39 or 40 merc, you dont see too many.

    I wouldn't call it a 40's custom either.

Beautiful car but I don't like the front end.....I also would not kick it out of the garage. $.02

  11. My thoughts exactly. Needs a smoother, streamlined bumper in the rear

yeah, it ws purple and a cover car feature in R&C or Street Rodder 10 - 15 years back.

  15. R&C ran a feature on it in the Nov. '96 issue. According to the article customising was done by Barris in '57.

Is the hood open or just a terrible fit in the front?

Nice car, but it's a long way from a 40's era custom.

I think it used to have a dressed early Caddy ot Olds- now it's all street rod- and the aired out stance is not pleasing (best I can do- PM me for real feelings).

This is the The Rosa Built Merc you mentioned. Different car

About the car on this post. I liked it better when it was purple with a proper custom stance dropped in the rear instead of the all aired out front angled stance with angled front wheels.

I have always doubt if this was an real Barris car. If it was built in 1957 as claimed it was a wild custom and for sure would have made it into the magazines. And the fact it now has been "updated with no crest at all must say enough!.

Edited: I was wrong here. The car has been worked at by Barris. I have found a photo of the Barris Workshop where this can can be seen in the background. I have added them on page 4 of this post.

I think it looks better in these photos by Boones. The gras hides the ugly new stance a bit...

Someone photoshop the rear bumper off of it in Rikster's photo. That bumper looks like a bad aftertought. Very cool otherwise.

Way to many changes for changes sake to be a 40,s era style of Custom. The 40's were about taking a car and making it far better than the original using lots of subtle changes.

I don't think he means 40's era Kustom. I think he means 40 something year Kustom. Maybe i'm wrong, but that's what I thought he meant.
Anyways...I hate the taillights and those things above the headlights. I agree PE1925,the rear bumper ruins the back. I also liked it better purple. Still...it is a nice looking car.

Beautiful car, but I agree with some others. It looks confused as to what era it is. I like the exhaust out the back bumper, but that isn't the right bumper it just doesn't fit the car. Its not smooth and doesn't flow like the body does. The front one is just to busy for that car. Maybe its going to be used for a cow catcher? OOPS sorry. Just my opinion.

Im not sure about the headlight treatment, it may look better if a different (less busy) headlight was used??
    thats what I think , but I don't profess to know anything:D

The profile of this car is really nice. For some reason the front bumper is overtaking the rest of the front end. I feel like it's a booger on a really pretty girls nose. But the rest of it is nice.
