I'm working on a 36 Chev pickup and I need a narrower rear end than the 78 1/2 ton rearend I have now. I hear the Ford Granada is a good fit,but their getting tough to find here in Seattle. The truck is getting the usual SBC/Turbo 400 and Heidts IFS. I'd really like to go G.M. so I can have 15inch 5 on 4 3/4 all the way around. Anyone out there got any ideas on rear ends narrower than a 78 1/2 Chev.;but wider than a S10.

  5. S-10 4WD comes in at 58-1/2 as I recall. Wider than a 2WD. That might not be a bad choice and should be readily available.

Wow, I don't have any dimensions but we used a '56 Chev sedan axle in the first "hot rod" that I ever built ... a '36 Chev pickup ... sometime back in the middle Seventies.

Having said that, we didn't have a steel bed for the thing and simply built a wooden stakeside bed to fit.

I'd love to see the pics of yours!
