Yes excellent stuff, I used the one for bonding Aluminium to Gl***fibre, Impossible to get the sides pieces apart.
3M 8115/8116 Panle Bonding Ahesives have approval for quarter, doorskin, and roof skin repairs. It has gl*** beads to keep the proper bead thickness when clamping, and corrosion inhibators built into the product. 4000 lbs overlap sheer strength when fully cured. This stuff is amazing
The key to both of these products is to grind off all of the bonding that squeezes out when clamped. After it has cured make sure you get it all off. Fillers (bondo) do not stick to them very well at all. After you get it all nice and painted the seam will show up later on and eventually the bondo will seperate from the bonding agent. Fusor and 3M are both great products.
yes covered the chrysler industrial up on a set of valve covers, used it under a strip of metal glued around the edges ,now there generic with the rocker bumps, that stuff bonds excellent .
Car nut If you spray Epoxy Primer then do the filler on Epoxy will it cure the visible seam. I've seen what your referring to so I've never used 3M 8115/8116 Panel Bonding Adhesives. It looks like a strong product used in production lines on American Cars.
Good stuff...when used in nonstructural areas that have overlapping flange joints. It was never really meant to be used in areas where the bond seam required additional "hiding". Bonding patch panels etc is always gonna be touch and go at best with regards to showing seam lines.
I've used the Fuzor 127(?) to bond a fibergl*** hood skin to a steel substructure with very good results.
I work for peterbilt, in the body shop thats the only product we use for bonding. fusor drys in a few minutes with heat, Its GM aproved for panel reapair. We use a bunch on UD adn Isuzu nose panels, but we don not use it for structural, even though they say its good on that. They now have a great product for the non reapairable plastic hoods and fenders. So far its been working without a problem. I saw a guy use the metal bond on a 54 chev to drop the crown of a rooftop. cut it all around, relief cut on the corners and pushed down to the gutters, glued it after it setup recaulked the channels super cool and still holding.
Will it be a good idea to use this metal bonding adhesive for my rear 1/4 panels instead of tacking it together?
I think your best off with a welded but joint when replacing a quarter panel. Dont just tack it though, use tack welds until it is welded solid. But for the right application these adhesives are realy amazing.
we rebuilt a panoz roadster with it entirely to bond the body panels on it, hood, front qtr skins and it is being road raced now and not even a hint of seam showing 3m
Also check out Norton speedgrip. I have used all three products before. Great when welding is not practical. (e.g.- I glued some accessory mounts to the inside of a firewall, welding would've burned the engine side paint, and a bolt would've ruined an otherwise clean and smooth firewall)
its all in prep i used it on a 66 mustang when relpacing 1/4's and thats been a few years back and it still looks great
