Front suspension is done, minus shocks, and the motor is off the engine stand and ready to mount between the framerails in the coming days...5 months to the Rust Revival, I better get crackin...pics soon.
For those that don't know, or remember, '29 plymouth 4 door shortened to a 2 door using the rear suicide doors, mopar tube axle, '61 pontiac posi rear 3.23 gears, '74 pontiac 400 w/TH350, '46 dodge pickup steering column and box, whippet grille shell, bench seat, etc.
I won't have access to a computer to post pics from until tomorrow...I might even be nice enough to post a pic of my custom modified dash...
Here we go yo...keep in mind that as it sits right now the car is NOT sitting at ride height, and it will need to be chopped still...I will be replacing all of the rotten sheetmetal in due time, along with filling and fixing the grille...this car WILL be repaired, smoothed and painted in the next year or two (however long it takes me to do everything)...so without further ado, the update pics... And here's what she looked like when I started it in May of '07, and keep in mind, the body as you see it in these tiny pics is essentially in 4 pieces (the way it was given to me was chopped up into pieces already) and needed to be cut apart into 8 pieces to make everything fit back together...enjoy...
Lookin' good, Johnny. All it takes is time. Do a little every day, and soon It will be done. Just remember, Denise is expecting a ride in May!
Thanks John, I hope everything goes smoother from here on out...it'll be at least another year before this thing is smoothed out enough to paint, and i still need gl*** and weatherstripping
Not badmouthing your car - it looks like a fun project, but that isn't a 29 Plymouth unless you've done some radical changes to the body. The metal - not wood - inside the doors, the cowl vent (29s didn't have them) and the lack of the distinctive raised molding on the top of the cowl peg this as a later model - not a 29.
Any clue as to what year it is? It was originally a 4 door car, and from what few photos I could find I thought it looked like a 29...
Very funny Todd, I got it back on the right way...anyway, I looked up 33 plymouth on google and that looks like my original dash, which is funny because the ***le I bought is from a 33 plymouth 2 door sedan...so could it be a 33 based on the dash style?
last time saw it, i figured you would be in teh rubber room by now holding a steering and shifter making vroom noises.. all that hardwork its starting to look like something even witout the beer goggles, i gotta get out there to see it...hahahaha
Judging by the size of the rear side window it appears to be a 31 PA, the 33 dash isn't quite the same...
I have a rectangle rear windshield, large rear side window, cowl vent and the body line tapers across the side of the cowl, and the original dash has a dropped down center gauge cluster area...what the hell year is this car?
It looks a little like a '29 Plymouth Model U. But I think a model U doesn't have a cowl vent. Whatever it is, I'm guessing it's from around '29 or '30. By '32, most car companies got rid of visors over the windshield, except on trucks.
On coupes the rear window went square in mid 30 i belive but i could be backward on that, but if it has the stock serial# tag it can be looked up on a site online, i forget where it is thought anyway i have a Chopped 30 ply coupe i'm doing
On my '31 Plymouth, the serial number was on a metal plate riveted to the P***ENGER side front door jamb. Too bad your firewall is gone, because that might have made it a lot easier to identify the car.
Alright ya schmucks, here's the latest...as of Friday I got the motor mounted, as of last night the grille shell and headlight brackets are mounted as well, although I still need to move the crossmember that's in front of the grille shell rearward so it's behind the grille shell (it was only placed there temporarily so I could piece the frame together)...hopefully by the end of the week I'll have my headlights on, shocks and shock mounts mounted and starting the trans. X-member...it's nice to be making some major progress again...oh, and I've almost got my steering figured out using a shortened '46 Dodge pickup box and column...so without further ado, here's some more ****py pics... Enjoy!!!
Nice project. Keep up the good work and it will payoff in the end. I know what your going through I did pretty much the same build. Here's a picture of my 4 door to 2 door conversion. 30 Chrysler.
Here's another update for you guys...as long as the body doesn't sell in the next few weeks, it'll be making its way to my new house, and put into storage for a little while until I get my shop built, after which I will be severely chopping the body on it and building it into a Pontiac powered Altered AA/Gas dragster...I have a 671 blower coming sometime soon as part of a trade, and the motor in the '40 Plymouth g***er is getting yanked out so I can swap in a better one, which means I'll have a spare 400 Poncho motor, low compression heads, blower, body, rearend, etc...how does that sound?
it's been rough this past year, for more than just myself...now I just have to spend $62,000 to get the house and shop set up the way I want and I get to start slipping back into building stuff again...hopefully by next summer or fall (in 2010) I should be able to start wrecking cars again...and maybe a truck or two as well...
