This may be a no brainer to you guys, but thinking about it is making my head hurt. I have a 63 1/2 Falcon 2dr ht. The previous owner messed things up and put a seive in it, also known as a leaking from every orifice AOD. The car currently has a 302 but will be getting a stroked and poked 351 Windsor. I did some swapping for a C-4 but when it arrived, it turned out to be a C-6(not a bad mistake if you ask me). Has anyone here put a C-6 in a Falcon, and How much tunnel work is needed to make it fit? The guy has already butchered it to make the AOD fit, but I don't want to drastically over work the floor. Any ideas or help appreciated.
A C6 fits without too much tunnel work, just a little pounding up high with a hand sledge, and you need to make a dent low on the right inner toeboard to clear the C6 servo housing. No cutting and patching necessary. Now headers on a 351W in an early Falcon, that part'll be fun. -KK
Wasn't planning the header thing out just yet, but that is something I will have to consider too. Like I said, the guy already hacked up the AOD install, so I guess I will pull his repair out and make some minor alterations to it...like remove all the sharp screws from my engine compartment and use a welder. Incidently, I have kinda made a bet with a guy that my Falcon will be a naturally aspirated 351W and he is building his 1962 Falcon with a 302 and a 6-71 blower. I told him I could take him
Cool, the only problem now, is my buddy says a C-6 is too much ****** for a small block. This is so dam frustrating. I will let you know what I come up with. Thanks
I wouldnt go out to specifically buy one, but given the chance I'd put it in, YES. Without a doubt. Is it "too much" trans.....Admittedly, it is heavier that a C4 and it has slightly more parasitic HP. Yah I'd still use it.
I just put a 460/c6 from a 77 Lincoln in a 62 Fairlane..not the same but...I used motormounts from Crites and built a crossmember out of the one from the lincoln attatched to the subframe connectors. I had to grind the stiffeners off the top of the ****** and bash in the hump about a half inch right along the firewall to get the tailshaft into position. Fits nice now. Too much ****** for a small block?????
Well, my buddy seems to have the jealousy bug, his "advice" changes daily. I traded a Torker II intake manifold for the 302 to the for the C-4, he is a chevy guy and was told that is what was in the truck. The trans he took out of the truck ended up being this C-6. I am now seriously thinking I want to use the C-6 because we believe it to contain a shift kit. I am probably gonna overlook the parasitic load thing for now and just run.
One more thing, I am aware that the braces over the engine are to keep the shock towers from collapsing. Is there a way to beef these up from underneath and eliminate those bars, they are gonna cause a problem when I try to stuff that 351 W in to her. I will win, but don't want all the battle scars that are sure to happen if they stay.
try TFFN.NET its a falcon message board with tons of info.... and as was said earlier, headers for these cars ****, i have a set in my '63 ranchero with a 302 and yeah they fit, but tightening them is the fun part!! the collectors are almost IMPOSSIBLE to reach . but either way your car will really scoot, mine does and i only have a mild cam with an AOD
I use a C-4 with my 351W in my 60 Falcon, when had the shock tower braces in and stock front suspenion I was able to use Headman Header part#88660 1 5/8 tubes with a 3 inch collector and it took a little bit to put it in but worked OK. Now that I have a straight axle under the front it made it so much better with getting the engine in and out and it goes down the 1/4 mile alot better than it did with the stock front suspenion. Jon
It may take "a bit" to get headers in....like a ballpeen hammer. To get headers that don't have to flow 100 degree angles within 3/4" from the head, the Crites kit mentioned earlier is a great choice. The C-6 from a 300 cu. in. truck can be swapped into a small block, that's likely what you have. If you truly do "poke and stroke" your Windsor, the C-6 is is a great choice. Love to see some pics when you're done.
Cool, cause I just found out that the C-6 is going, going, gone. I am sending it back to the guy I got it from. Another buddy of mine is building a C-4 to order, with a shift kit and a can of whoop*** tucked away inside it. I am now determined to go with the 351 Windsor cause I have had 3 people tell me it couldn't be done
