I am to young to know the answer to this question. I have searched around some what on the net but was not able to find any pictures of one. So here it goes, Was there any Model A pick -up trucks that were Gassers in the 60's
I just looked around on gasser madness for 15 minutes and didn't turn up anything, doesn't mean there aren't any though. I'm pretty sure Ive seen em before somewhere.
No doubt man... 42 minutes of waiting. Time flies when you're..... looking for pictures of old cars? Sorry for bustin' your chops, it just made be chuckle.
boy I amlad someone has responded I thought I was going to have ti give up. I forgot to mention that I was all over Byron's and come up with nothing.
confede-rat26 here on the HAMB has an old altered that belonged to Jim Morris, raced in the 60s. It's not a gasser since it's an altered, but has the gasser look. There's a thread about it here called "barn find of a lifetime" Cool thread with some good history and vintage pics.
I tryed here is the best I could find.i It's more of an altered than a gasser, gassers have fenders, altereds dont Ron...
to be honest with you what I remember from back in the day, most of the gassers were willys, austins and anglias with a few trifive chevys, then a few mid 60's novas started running gas classes befor they got rid of the gasser class most of the model A's were running fenderless and in the altered classes and most of them were roadsters. A gasser could be a coupe,a sedan or even a pickup but it had to have fenders to run gas class, I say if you have a fendered model a PU build it gasser style and be the only one around Ron...
Thanks Ron, I have a Model A pick Up that I want to build to have a little fun with nd then sell it. I have other keeper's so I try to build things to pay for the keeper's. I thought that a Model A truck as a gasser would look pretty cool. But I was wondering if they ran any back in the day. I have a 425 Cadillac for it with a turbo 400 trans. I know it should be a swing pedal vehichle but like I said I want to be able to sell it. I am going to get started on this project ASAP. I will post picks as I start. Thanks guys I hope that some picture will pop up but if not I think I have an Idea of how it should look.
All gassers had fenders. It was a rule. If it didn't have fenders, it was run as an altered or some other class. While you are fishing around over at gassermadness, read the rules for the gas classes. It's a good history lesson.
Thanks Skirv I Just finished reading the section you told me about. This is cool that Byron gives this information so that we can have an idea what went on in this era. I now know that it would not be the right thing to do with my Model A truck. Thanks guys.
Bad Rod you just saved the day on how I am going to build my Truck. This thing is bad ass. I love it!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone have any more pics of this truck or others like it? Are these considered alters? If so this is what I am talking about.
I believe the closest to what you are looking for is "street roadster" class. This will have been model A roadster (no top) pickups. Full fenders required. I have seen them in the gasser books. Don't know why the early pickups weren't popular in Gas, there were many Willys pickups. Possibly a model-year cut-off?
B/Altered as indicated on the door, altereds were allowed a 25% max engine setback vs. 10% on a gasser.. CC
Not a model A or really a gasser but maybe inspirational, An A pickup could be built the same way.................
Hey Kev, I was just checking out some of your pics from an early listing of Vintage drag cars. I am curious will a pair of chrome deep dish wheels be period for this sort of build for the rear and some skinny pair of aluminums for the fronts.
lockwoodkustoms, here check this out..... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=170994&highlight=barn+find
This little truck is just to cool. I am very inspired to build my truck along these lines. Thanks Bad Rod you guys have tons of history here on the HAMB.
