Picked my new (old) 50 Plymouth Sedan up yesterday...woo-hooo! The car is from Montana...purchased it locally (Houston) from a guy that bought it sight unseen in February & had it shipped down. She's got the stock 218 Flathead 6 and 3 on the tree...dropped about 3" front & rear (cut coil and lowering block) and features an amateur PPG black basecoat paint job. Runs & drives pretty good...got 17mpg driving it out to my folks place near Sealy...sure hopes she can make the drive to Athens this weekend! Pics; Gary
NIce to see these post war mopars getting thier props finally. Folks getting enthusiatic about these formerly unpopular cars. Gotta like it. If you can scoot some taller tires on the back, your over the road mileage will improve some. I am running 225 75 15 on my 46 with a 56 230 and getting 19/20 highway miles. They are reliable but keep the revs down, long stroke motors don't like it much over 4200. If you shave the head some, it will benefit quite a bit from the higher compression.
I like it. It takes to the flat black better than a lot of cars do. And the fastback profile is pretty. I'd paint the rims shiney black and make the tires into WWW's. It would be $20 and a weekend well spent.
Right on! Looks nice. I didn't know we had any HAMBer in Athens. Got an aunt and uncle that live there.
...that's one clean little Plymy...I like the 50 Plymouth a lot; I've got a 50 tudor club coupe (not the 3 window).Haven't done anything with it yet but have plans. There's a nice 50 wagon in the latest Rod & Custom; those are very nice looking wagons. I'm glad these cars are finally getting some attention also. Your fastback version is fairly rare.
I really like those mopars. I wouldnt mind finding one for myself. Especially those "slat back" styles. Congrats.
That looks great,i love that rear 3/4 view. That chrome that runs along the window and over the back really visually breaks up a big car.
Welcome to the Plymouth club, I have two a 1949 Three window business coupe, dual carbs and exhaust, head cut 70M, runs great. Have fun, Maybe will see in Detroit next year for the big anniversity.
Thanks guys! Red wheels are the 1st things to go...probably going to get some flipper caps or some 53 Olds hubcaps. Then some Goodyear Super Cushion WWW's. Future plans include; split exhaust manifold w/smittys, Edmunds 2x1 intake (if I can find one), and maybe an edgy head. Headlights are getting frenched and I'm losing some of the misc. trim pieces on the nose. I'm looking for the Dodge side trim (extends to the mid-point on the doors), and will eventually play with the idea of skirts and maybe a visor. Goin' down to the old Texas theater here in Sealy tomorrow to snap some more pics... Gary
nice car man very cool got one pretty much the same body style except a dodge. The motor out now and rebuilding it all now with all the fun flathead gear.
Those old Plymouths are great cars, good handling, comfortable riding, easy parts availability, solid, dependable, BUT just remember "they only knock once!"
Nice car Gary! I really like the fast backs too as some have already stated. They've got really nice lines. -Troy
ANOTHER fastback! I'd never seen one until ratfinklover scored his. Very cool indeed. I'm going to have to start looking harder for one of those!

The other is a '39 with a '55 Dodge 230 - bored .060, Edgy cam, Fenton aluminum head, Edmunds intake with 2 1bbls with re-popped Edmunds cleaners, and Langdon headers with dual Smithys. Yup, I think it'll look balls with a 3" chop & trunk section to flatten out its bubble ****. Maybe after the first of the year... UPDATE: Drove it back from the Houston area to the house in Athens on Saturday...40 degrees and spitting rain the whole way. Vacuum wipers wouldn't work & the damn heater ain't workin right...had to carry a towel with me to defog the winders myself & nearly froze my nads off. RainX was a lifesaver though and I learned that 'Miss Mayflower' doesn't like to get in too much of a hurry (70 mph is about as fast as it gets...and that's downhill with the wind to my back). Time to find some folks to cruise with...
Gary-- Nice score. The flat black looks mighty fine, too. Makes me wish I didn't have to sell mine. Keep driving that thang, Joe
Looks really good. I've got a '51 club coupe myself. I'm working on getting my '65 Fury 8.75" rear in and planning on running air bags with an on-board air setup. I've already squeezed a 440 into it, but need to rework the inner fenders a little. I wish you the best of luck with your Plymouth.
the wipers off of the Chryslers that year are electric.Just make sure the gear box has good grease in it or they are no better than the vacuum type.
i remember bringing my son home from the hospital in my 51' cranbrook. those old mopar flatheads are really tough to kill. hard to believe you could still buy one and drive it home for $200 in 1985.
