Anybody score in Moultrie? or did everybody stay home and watch Ebay?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by earl schieb, Nov 18, 2007.

  1. 3 days of walking, two days driving, and nothing fantastic came home with me:(
Only things close to a score--
Posie reversed eye front superslide, new $60
    New 'gl*** 32 shell $75
Pair of Edelbrock 1406's, nearly new $200

Am I getting hard in my old age, or is everybody crazy pricing **** for new(nearly) prices? Are 30-31 grille shells really RARE? Rusted out rear bones worth $25 each? Fibergl*** E&J's $300??
Don't even get me started on the "car lot" prices:rolleyes: So ridiculous it was funny... 6 cyl big cars in the high teens/low 20's......69 Camaros for fifty grand??? Too many dealers who watch Barret-Jackson maybe??

Can you tell I had a good time :D
Yeah, I'll prolly go back next year. A bad day at a swap meet beats a good day at work, right?

I only saw 3 hambers(BenD, Kustom52 and Eddie)--where were the rest of you guys at? I even wore my cheesy HAMB hat

all the good stuff is in the boxes of junk the seller doesn't even empty. I find all sorts of good junk this way.

We were there! I didn't find any great deals(bought one tunnel ram w/carbs soso deal) . Everything was high, I will only go back for big sheetmetal items(to keep shipping down). :(

We just bought the same tools as always, burrs for me, extension cord ends and spring clamps for the nephew. The only good deal was some digital levels for $5. The only car that I liked was a '53 Stude wagon for $10K. Things like a BBC Corvette tri power for $4000 seemed crazy.

Crowd was light sat. Don't know if it was the 3$ gas or the entry fee @ 10$. Got tail light lenses for my 60 Plym, & a few other things. Hemi parts were at full price!

Mike, thanks again for your help. Yeah, Sat. was very slow which was a surprise. I sold a lot of junk on Fri. but only one item Sat. Go figure.
Also had a really decent cash offer Fri. on my 56 Ford but I declined. Might have been one of those cases where "2 fools met".

And I thought it was just me....

    Model A hoods $2-300?

Scored a few small parts, model a crossmember, and a found a nice model a hood for $40...

If what people were asking for junk is market price, I'm sitting on a gold mine. And if I hear 'rat rod' one more time I'm gonna puke...

I think the whole "redo" of the swap had everythng off. What's with the "if you're not preregistered you can't sell?" and the increase in price, and the changing of the days.. and why do we need a glossy magazine 'program'?

Yeah, i'm a little pissed, because after figuring in gas and motel bill that model a hood was not such a bargain after all...

After this haul last year, kinda depressing...

thought I did pretty well got there early thurday brought a 32 cowl with a really nice dash had it around back and someone seen it and wanted it a lot more then I did
scored a very good condition 55 chevy visor for 200. thought it was a little high but the only other one I seen the guy asked me 750. for it so I asked if he wanted to buy one for 600. he said no

  12. If I go sell at a swap meet, I have to pay for a space, pay for gas to get there, and pay for some sort of food even if I bring it. Plus bust my *** to load and unload all that **** twice. And deal with ***holes offering me less than half of what something's marked all day. You better believe I'm going to put eBay prices on stuff - why the hell should I take less just because it's not eBay when I did more work and spent more money to come there?

It wouldn't be a big deal if I could put $100 on something and get $90, but I got tired of people offering me pennies on the dollar a long time ago. Now when someone offers less than I want on something, I just raise the price more.

I understand your point, as I have sold at swaps for years.. but if you can sell it on ebay for $X.00, why bother going to all the trouble of hauling it to the swap?

I should make a trip to this show someday seeing as how i was born there. Never even seen the place though cause my folks whisked me away from there 6 weeks later to another Air Force Base one of many i would get to see in my life time!

  16. Swaps went to **** about 2 years ago for me. That's the 1st time I ever went to a swap and didn't buy anything, nothing. I'd usually find something I didn't know I needed. Not even the $1.00 or less item just to buy something.

  17. It's easier to toss in and out of the truck a couple times in a day than spend the 20 minutes to photograph it and set up the auction, and the 20 more minutes to pack it properly, plus another 20 to take it up to FedEx/Kinkos and get it out of here. Plus what little I do sell helps pay for all the **** I buy off other guys either for my needs, or because it's so stupidly cheap I know I can sell it for more somewhere else. I do that all the time.

Plus there's always that box of **** I just want to get rid of and will sell for whatever I can get for it.

I was ther with a HAMB shirt on. No one came by or said squat. even had my decals on the door. jerry kelly says the city county keeps raising the price on him. I did not like the wed set up thursday open day and sat close. I do like being able to see diff parts and ideas. I guess I will have to go to the bay with my stuff.

I am looking foward to the turkey rod run ! However it blows me away at some of the prices people ask and get .And if you try to BARGIN they get offended and they raize the price. I understand the trouble they go through (cost and labor). If put into perspective this is called a swapmeet not some high end department store.Personaly I mainly go for the car shows. And ebay is nice but you have no atmosphier.Junk dealers make a living selling junk, we spend our lives and living making it. GO FIGURE !
