The first time I heard the term was from an old boss of mine that said they used to use Pledge (furniture "wax") on their primered cars, giving them a satin look. He said they called 'em Suede then and he seemed to be referring to 60's-70's, but I don't recall for sure.
    Never tried the Pledge myself...

Suede is a type of material...Paint is either primer or flat/no gloss/matte.

    "Suede"

What people who fancy themselves stylish or ******** call their flat or semi-gloss paint.

If you have a mullet & camaro instead of a pompadour & merc, it's "Satin"

When I took my Belair in for paint I said I wanted flat, they looked at me and I said you know as in not shiny. I had to translate into Japanese and they only understood suede.

    Hey Sodas38,
Lance the builder/owner of that coupe is the guy that draws the last page in the older Rodder's Digest magazines.
He had wide white wall bias on the coupe too.
We heard the "suede" thing here on the east coast first from his car.
It's an awesome car and he and his wife are awesome folks.
    Have fun,Smokey
