Cruised Woodward from about 1966 to about 1972. Usually with friends, they had the fast cars. Rode with friends who had a '69, 428 Cobrajet Mustang, probably the fastest muscle car I rode in. Also cruised in a couple different Roadrunners, a 57 Chevy and a 69 Triumph Spitfire.

I cruised woodward early 60's and 70's in all types of cars 55 ford, 41 ford coupe, 63 vette splitwindow and my buddies 427 63 ford 4speed. Those were good crusing years! Slight interuption due to the vietnam war in 66-68.

I cruised Woodward, Gratiot,... and Telegraph, mostly Telegraph, I worked at Gratiot Auto Supply Livonia in the 70's and we did a lot of "Testing" on Telegraph or "The Ditch".

I cruised Woodward in the 50s, from 1952 though 1958. Worked at Al Halsey's Sinclair at 12 mile and Woodward and cruised out of Dan's Big Town just North of 13 mile and the Norhwest Drive in at nine Mile and Northwestern. I started the Camblers Rod and ustom Club in 1952 or 3. Looking for other Camblers members. rcolaizzi@colaizzidesign.com

Thurston cl*** of 64. Most of the time did Telegraph. Before they turned Schoolcraft into an E-way we would run from Middlebelt out.

That's what got me thinking of it, too. Many people I meet at Woodward are always comparing Van Nuys and Woodward. I wonder if Van Nuys is loaded with rods, customs, street machines, etc all summer like Woodward is? 'course, Van Nuys has the weather to go all year round, but folks gotta put the toys away from November to April around here.

I started in a buddy's '55 Chevy in '61, bought that car in '63, snagged a '57 Ford in '65-'66, left for four years USN, '64 Impala in '70-'71, got married, got '68 Camaro in '77, flamed it, dropped in a sedate 427, car was stolen Oct of '79...been just drawing them since then.

I did not make it up to the dream cruise this year. Does anyone recall seeing a new reproduction steel cab display for a mid 50's FORD TRUCK? A guy from down this way was up there this year and swore he saw one?

I picked up a girl at Korvetts one night, she insisted she wanted to go with me when I raced someone, I had a factory 67 GT-390 4spd. Mustang Fastback, (blew up the 390 and replaced it with a dual quad 427 side oiler, It was Black on Black with SS Cragars),..

She kept saying "ooh race that one,... no no,.. race that one!"I pull up to the light near West Chicago and a guy pulls up next to me and and rapp's it a couple times,... I look over at her and said are you ready? to which her reply was a giggle,....... We spooled them up and when the light turned green I side stepped the clutch and we went to war,.....

Over the sound of that Big ol' 427 yelling out it's name,... Her screams just about blew out my ear drum, with a occasional STOP!,...STOP!,..WE"RE GONNA DIE!!!!,.... along with more screaming of co****,..... despite all of the "encouragement" I got from her,... the Ol' black horse won,...... as We slowed down she started crying hysterically,... and saying "I wanna go back to my friends!".

I take her back to Korvetts and she jumps out of the car and runs over to her friends,.. still crying hysterically,... I go over to explain because they were looking at me like I must have tried to attack her or something,.... They all called me a jerk (or worse) as they were trying to calm her down,... I look back just before I get in the car and I see the back of her light blue pants,... and her **** was dark blue ,... I look at my seat, and sure enough,.... I had to go over to Top Hat hamburgers to get some napkins,......

Surprised at how many of us were there at that time, and now live elsewhere. Surprised that some of us have crossed paths in other states. Hell, I was drag racing in Fl. with some of ya a couple years ago.

Not sure I could describe what Woodward Avenue was like in the early-to-mid-'60s. Friday & Saturday nights: cars lined up on Woodward a quarter mile just to pay fifty cents to get into Ted's (refundable with food order, but no one stopped-just cruised thru!) at the north end of the circuit.

All the drive-ins packed, 30 to 50 street races a night if you wanted to. And 20 miles of cool cruisin' (10 mi. up and 10 back to the Totem Pole Drive-in at 10 Mile Road)! I went to Navy boot camp in May of '66 and left my '57 Ford home. Got back for my 14-day leave in September and put 1400 miles on the car. 100 miles a night and never left Woodward!! For real! Too much fun!

Cruised there once in 1969. Did a coin toss with my best friend, he won and we took his car. Left my 68 Camaro 350 HP 396 4 spd at home. Took the Ram Air Firebird. Glad we did, saw lots of Camaros but not another Bird and definately nothing with a Canadian plate.

Never saw anything like it before. A great night.

I have 2 original water transfer decals,... I had 4 but gave 2 to a guy on the east side about 15 years ago,... just before the peel and stick ones became available,..... wonder if that is where these came from?

Nope, and hopefully he doesn't. No one in the family wants him too really. He does have his '48 Ford up for sale but just with a sign in the window. He hasn't made any effort to contact GG or NSRA and put it in their publication's for sale section.

Big Olds will be in the Detroit Autorama upstairs this year. Please stop by and say "hi". My folks will not be there though. I will tell them you said hello when I see them tomorrow.
