Ford rearend question

    I have this rearend sitting around. I think I got it out of a cougar. I don't remember. How do I tell if it is an 8 or a 9 inch?

    As far as the housing goes, I believe those two dimples in the back indicate 8". If you can get a socket wrench on the lower bolts on the front housing it is 8", if not it is 9".

  5. That being a coil springed Cougar rear end it would be a nine inch.

    To bad it didnt have a great big N on it - those are the good ones - The N means its a nodular iron case and they are super tough

    Nope this bolts can not be reached. The housing is in the way. I guess it's a nine?
