I got a '96 Camaro given to me. It's got a 3.8/5 spd manual. I'm entertaining the thought of shoving the combo into a 1960 Rambler American 2 dr. What is the least wiring I can get away with? I want to keep the FI, as the Camaro gets 28 mpg on the road. It'd be a lot cheaper on long road trips, and I could put some deep gears and a four speed in my Plymouth for playtime:D

Hey, it'll look traditional, at least.:) I've seen some other posts on here with V6's in old cars, and there wasn't a whole lot of drama. That blown 4.3 model T at the HAMB drags was pretty damned cool! Gotta do something to allow some mileage for the 1600 mile drives to MO and Austin and back if gas keeps going up.

I don't know of a plug and play harness available for this engine. Purchase a Camaro manual that has a detailed wiring schematic and adapt the stock harness. Big thing is getting power and grounds plus a few relays such as one to feed the fuel pump which is pcm controlled. May require an electronic speedometer and other guage hookups can be tricky since some senders are required for the pcm and some report to the guages. O2 sensors are a must and a catalytic converter is probably also needed. But if you've got the whole car, you have what you need. The PCM may require some changes to get beyond any anti theft devices and to dial things in for your setup. I've done this on an LT1. It took some time like 40+ hours with this being the first time I tried this. Results were good though. I know the 3.8 Camaro engines are far from traditional but they make good power and also have great fuel economy.

i have done 8 vehicles with tpi, and multi port couple of jeeps i hand wired, if you have an electrical understanding and what each component does for information, it jsut takes time to figure the length and location ,many engines just sit and get s****ped when they are totally useable and very efficient plus alot of horespower and drivability i gues i am glad i can do it myself fro m27 years in telcom i am pretty good at electronics and related areas

the cost in some of those plug and go computer and harnesses seem stiff but not after seeing what it is they have to go through to get something on the market, 5 to 6 hundred is a bargain to be able to have a functioning engine and drivetrain

Any other electric-genius types have any suggestions before I start in on this?
