January of '23. All steal. Got it at a steal! I took it for a test drive today and i'm going tomorrow to pick her up and pay the balance. '37 buick straight 8. custom exhaust manifold. '40 ford front end. S 10 rear end and m/s, only thing not pre '40 on this car, from the looks of it, besides the seat. Rims are from a '32 buick. Tires are firestones from coker. Custom frame. Electric fan. All new gauges. Grenade shifter. Original continental kit. Dual carbs and tacky custom cover. The guy got the body from a barn in central california 25 years ago. He got the turtle shell rear from another barn about 15 years ago. He's been building cars since the '60s with his father. He starts and finishes hes projects and drives them for like 3 months and sells them. Overall, it is a very quality build. I would have put in a different engine, but thats just me. Dont know how long i'll keep her. I'd rather have a deuce or something along those lines, but I couldnt p*** this deal up. I'll probalby tinker on her and throw her up for sale here in a few months. Its got cheap paint, but it does the job. The striping is that stuff you get from a parts store and you lay it down like tape. Really cheesy looking. With the red paint, the white frame and the green engine, its like christmas. The frame wont be white for long, what an odd color for a frame! Sorry for the lame pics. When I get it home, I'll be sure to take a few better ones and post 'em. ... great, now where am i gonna park the plymouth!? Questions? What do you guys think?!
Sounds like a good deal...but like you said...lame pictures. With a magnifying gl*** I can just about see 'em...
Updated with larger pics. None newer. I had to delay the pickup til tomorrow morning. I'll have new ones up hopefully tomorrow afternoon! I'm really excited.
Cool car and neat engine! But that green and red Christmas present wrapping paint combo kind of makes my eyes blurry. Are you maybe going to paint the body green to match the engine, or paint the engine some other color? How's it sound when it's running? Is it a lot different from how a V8 sounds?
It sounds like 3 or 4 harleys at idle. Sounds amazing. I think i'm going to do a green/ black thing? Definitely painting the frame black. Who paints a frame white?!
Oh, the "mailbox" is the first thing to go. Wish I could get a video with some sound, but my camera doesnt have a video feature. Also, I think my soundcard is out on my computer, so i wouldnt know if the audio was working anyway. I got the trailer in the sideyard hooked up to the van, just waiting. 6 hours til i go get her.
I like the looks of the car but I am SO glad you are removing that thing on top of the carbs. I had to force myself to look at the actual car and not the "mailbox". :0 I didn't even notice the white frame at first! Those straight 8s sound mean, don't they... Good luck getting it home and have a lot of fun with it. Is it me or is the front axle not centered?
Yeah, that'll look nice with a black body and the green engine, and maybe some green pinstripes the color of the engine. Green and black go great together. Check out the Polly Gas company stuff. A guy at the swap meets had a bunch of repro Polly Gas signs and gas pumps and other stuff and it's all gloss black and bright green and that color combo really looks nice.
He custom built the frame, so I doubt he was worried about rust. So I got it off of the trailer about 2 hours ago and I've just been driving the lady around town. Everywhere, at every light, a horn honks and a thumb goes up... not used to that. It was a NIGHTMARE getting this thing on the trailer. I borrowed it from a friend and didnt really check the clearance or anything. Lots of lumber and a jack and a winch was used. FUN times. Anyway, here are a few pictures. Sorry, havent taken off the 'mailbox' yet.
take off the box, paint everything thats white black. paint everything thats red black. Paint the wheels green to match the motor. Probably throw some black vinyl over the seats... maybe green, but im sure that would look tacky. Thats pretty much it. Its pretty much finished, just need to tie up a few odds and ends, but everything works. Just have to add my personal touches. Other than that, just drive it everyday until someone offers me a trade or some $ that I cant refuse.
Gloryoski! Does that thing actually have split rims all the way around? Might be a good idea to look into some conventionally rimmed wheels before you get too much road time under your belt and forget there may a problem (big one) if you have a flat. The car has potential for a bit of pizazz!
