I recently bought an Edmund's dual carb intake for my 235. I'm obviously not a knowledgable carb guy, need some advice on what carbs to get. I have a rebuilt rochester on the stock manifold now, seems to leak pretty consistantly, anything better out there? Also, motor has a 3/4 cam and is .60 over if that is useful. thanks to all.

Who did the rebuild on the carb?? Rochesters don't normally leak consistently like that unless it's installed improperly or the float is hanging up. Have you checked out what Vintage Speed stocks in the 1bbl department?

I have found rochesters to be a pain in the ass. email me and I can give details if you like.

Carter's are good carbs - www.thecarburetorshop.com or www.vintagespeed.com for info on Holley 847's (even though he doesnt have such a good rep - do a search here first).

some of those intakes had 3 bolt carbs and some had 2. so that will determine the carb.

  6. are you serious????? they leaked from the factory! great carbs to use on multicarb intakes, but they leak just a little

but carter W1's are not bad either

Carter yf is another that came stock from chevy.Good carbs and kits are available.Watch for differances between 216,smaller bores, and the 235 versions. Not had much luck stoping one rochester from leaking let alone three.

Like they have said previously, I run Stromberg BXOV-2 carbs, both 2x1 on an Edmunds and 3x1 on a McGurk.
I put the Rochesters on a shelf 2 years ago, no regrets. :D '22

Ya want reliability?Performance, adjustability,Go with a Rochester Monojet 1MV as found on 1975 and up 250 Chevy sixes. They fit have linkage similiar to the OLD skool rottenchesters and work great as parts are available and cheap, check Egay out. They have modern Nitrophyl floats and needles and seats that do not leak. :D

  15. word of warning on W1's.....they made about 1 billion different setups....and it's hard to get a matched pair.

sorry to keep bringing this post up, but really having trouble finding any of the carbs mentioned. also don't really think I got a straight forward answer as to if all of the carbs mentioned will fit 2bolt pattern X 2 15/16 ctr-ctr. Thanks to all. Just new to the carb stuff and want as much info as possible.

  17. Bumping this back up....
seems sixstring never got his answer......carter W1's are (crappy) 2 13/16"
    Rocherster B or BC's are 2 15/16"

Anyone know what the stromberg BXOV's are? also what did they come off originally?

BXOV-2s have a 216 bolt spread. Stromberg made a similar design carb with the larger 235 bolt pattern, but I can't recall the number.

i wonder if it is bxuv for the 235

also the ones with the adjustable jet were aftermarket

they were off a ton of cars i believe

  21. so i'd be safe to assume that the bxOv is for the 216 and the bxUv is for the 235? i'm getting ready to change intakes for the third time switching to a fenton and i'm ready to experiment with new carbs. I like the idea of the adjustable jet, just need to make sure it's the correct width cl to cl on the mounting....any help?

ok well i'm running three Rochesters on my 235 six and yes they did leak when i first put them on i found out that the floats have to be finely tune and get the extra thick gaskets that i found as new old stock at a carb shop and they are a bit tuff to keep in tune strombregs are the way to go from what i hear so when you learn which ones fit right please let me know and with the linkage
