So many questions. So little time.
In my opinion the only simple answer is... until your frame and suspension meet or the wheels mash the fenders to bits. That's gonna be different on just about every car. How you planning on lowering? Cut springs? How much deflection is left in the springs to handle the load makes a difference for rebound and "suspension".
Or in my part of the world... until you can't drive the stupid thing because you bottom out on the road, ruining the whole undercarriage!

I flipped the spindles and cut the coils one loop, in front. In the rear I used 4" blocks. Lowered about 4 1/2" from 'stock". the tires are 205 75x15".The pan has about a 2" road clearance.(flathead). If I have people in the back seat the driveshaft rubs,on even small bumps. The front tires will rub the outside fenderwells in a tight turn. My computer crashed,so no pics..but I think it is as low as you can go,(all the time) no cheating with bags ,hydrolics etc...:D But you gotta pay to be cool....:D

Put a spacer in your spring pocket on the front, cut a coil, that will give you 4-5". Out back use a 4" lowering block and de-arch your springs. I did my 51 that way and it road ok but you have to watch the bumps. TP

Great stance without looking too low like a cartoon. I like it.

Here is mine. Cut coils (1.5) and De-arched rear springs with no blocks.

It rides a hair less than a cadillace and I still have plenty of room to go lower If I want. an inch more in the back and the floor has to be cut out to clear the pumpkin and driveshaft.

Any lower, than it will ride like wood unless you continue on the typical frame/suspension modifications.

How low you go is determined by how much money you want to spend. If you have it in your head that you want to put the frmae rails on the ground at some point dont mess around with anyhting else "for the time being" I dont know how many times I have done that only to spend about 4 times the amount of time and money over a period of long time to get to the same results I could have gotten to in half the time and a quarter the funds, had I just done it the right way first. Wow that was a mouth full. anyhow to your question. with out cutting the floor you can get the car to a nice looking stance but you also have to remember to leave about 4 inches for the suspension to travel before hitting the bumpstops. if you dont you will get a very bouncy ride when the axle bottoms out against the frame violently. If you or your friends have some fabricating skills it is not rocket science to cut and notch the frame in the rear. you can make a notch on 50 fords and not sacrifice a ton of trunk space. Although you should always plan ahead and be safe. this is your suspension you are working on so make sure the welds are done in a profesional manner. measure like seventeen times then make a cut.

Moral of my babbling is do it the way you really want it the first time. I garauntee it will be cheaper and a heck of a lot more fun.

    My useless .02
