A couple of weeks ago, Chapters (Canada) announced, that they would sell American publications for the American price. Could be a decent deal if it goes for magazines too.
my girlfriend bought my subscription for me on last b-day, i hope she got the hints for a two year renewel for the TRJ on Christmas ! "wanted Hirohata issue of the TRJ"
56 Kustom: Still waiting for mine out here in the territories [almost next door to CruZer] of Western MA. Usually shows up after it hits the rack at Barnes and Nobel in the valley.
I was told by someone involved with TRJ that other publishers stated that it would cost at least as much to produce something of it's quality as what they are charging for the mag. One of my favorites...
I got my first issue Wednesday..in a plastic sealed envelope inside a cardboard envelope. Love it. THe article on the Orange Crate is detail and more. Very cool issue !
It's true, the location now is Blair's 3rd location. I sued to go there all the time after school to check out used parts. I have noticed a lot of errors in every issue of TRJ and I wish the writers would do more research before writing things down that everyone else will belive to be factual. Also, claiming Blair's to be "Americas Oldest Speed Shop"........ I thought Speedy Bill's Shop was the oldest??? They want to charge more money, but they need to get the stories and facts straight.
Larry you are a friend and a pretty nice guy, so I would be willing to sell you my entire collection including TWO number 2's and TWO number 4's for $50,000 That's well under the 6 figure price I know it is a great sacrafice on my part, but hey, I have already looked at them
Theres nothing like getting home to find TRJ by the door. Almost as good as OSR I have a number one I'll sell for $9K or I'll trade it for a duece body.
About 6 months ago in Tokyo, there was a public uproar when cigarettes were raised from $2.70 all the way up to $3.00 . When I go to Tower Records in Shibuya, its the ONLY place I can get TRJ....and do you know how much it costs?????....Nah, me either I think its about $25 in Australia
Oh dear $15 bucks. geez guys, in Australia up until recently I was paying $30 or $27 US in current exchange rates. And I didnt complain. but then I have had number 38 for over 3 weeks now guess you have to pay the price to get it early

Rodnee was purchased by P-Wood and Lukens in like 72? They saw it at a R.G.Canning auto swap @ the Rose Bowl. Pete didn't build it and never takes credit for it. They did make several small changes, but it looks very similar to how it looked nearly 40 yrs ago. Oldest Speed Shop? Where does one want to start here? 1.Lee Chapel started selling used T parts from Broken Drum Auto Salvage on San Fernando Rd. That was Late 20's Early 30's. 2.George Wight-Bell Auto Parts did it about the same time. 3.Ed Winfeild Auto Engineering, Same time as abpve. 4. Karl Orr Speed Shop. Culver City, Now this is really a do***ented shop with the best looking High Boy Deuce with the "Right Top" parked right out front. He and wife Veda were in there in the beginning as well as instrumental in many other areas of this life that we appreciate. Those are 4 right off the top, I am sure that many others were around, but those are what are known. Speedy Bill didn't start till 1952. That is according to his own literature. Blair Auto Parts @ 826 Arroyo Parkway (Formerly Broadway during the war) wasn't opened till after ther war. So I guess Alex (So-Cal) is in there as well
Got mine Tuesday, cardboard sleeve was open (peeled open at the flap) and the plastic sleeve had some 'irregularities' in the glue line. At least they didn't crease the spine. Course I shouldn't ***** I suppose, they have kept my mags for over a month in the past (postal cervix). Speaking of accuracy, the build of the 31/32 Chev with the 'Chevy' 6 and 5 carbs, last I checked a '54 302 I-6 was a GMC. I've slept since I read it though, so please forgive me if I've got the wrong publication here. Of course if I were writing for them, it would probably bankrupt the company trying to fix my screw ups, so.
I never complained about the price! what I was referring to was the price increase timed with the end of my two year subscription I can find errors in just about any car circles (I'm old) but try not to be to critical, with all my knowledge I have some grey areas that I get slammed on ocasionally....Jim
I received my poster in the mail on Monday. In my opinon it is the best one ever. If you hav'nt got yours yet, think of the two most famous cars featured in the current issue!
Agreed it is a very good issue. The Barris Merc is unbelievable. I've been buying it off of the newstand for the past three years, but I am thinking of subscribing now instead. Do you guys have much of a problem with getting your issues, getting them timely, and/or being in good shape?
Who hasn't received issue #38 yet? I am a regular subrscriber in the Mid-West and haven't received mine yet. Tried to call them, but no answer today. Must have a long weekend off.
Still waiting here on the ridge in Western MA. Not uncommomon to be on the tail end of deliverys, horse must get extra thirsty out here. Always well worth the wait though.
Prices are up on everything lately, because the value of a dollar aint worth a damn anymore. I'm a serviceman living in the UK... getting paid in dollars and paying rent in pounds. It ain't cool when a dollar trades out at 46 Pence. The Journal (which I liken more to a book) is still a deal!
TRJ 38 is a great issue. Picked mine up today while visiting Pete and Jakes--yeah the price went up two bucks but it's bigger and better than ever and they give solid reasons why in the editorial. I would love to spend a day with Steve ****an--he has to be a wealth of knowledge on our favorite subject.
In New Zealand I pay about $35 at the newstand but still think it is worth every cent. Over the years I have switched around from different magazines but I have been with TRJ from Issue 1 (unfortunatley missing Issue 4 tho).
Mine came in the mail yesterday. Didn't get home from work until 8 pm and had no time to read it. Can't wait for today after work. Sit down, pop a beer, and read it cover to cover while the wife bugs me to put up the Christmas tree!
i got my 38 this week and the poster today with the merc catalog. and i'm looking forward to the complete throttle book
Guys, Thanks for all the kind words. It is a ton of work put into each issue, and each article. ****an and the San Francisco crew put in the major hours, yet there are a group of us around the country providing the stories. Issue 38 is one of my absolute favorites. Jay Fitzhugh
So there is a poster and a catalog? Is that something that comes with the subscription, or is it special order?
never had a problem getting mine on time. picked up #1 at the swap meet last month for 5$ like new just a small tear in the front cover.... great buy. Erik
Thank You,and all the contributors, over the years.I've never missed an issue yet, worth every hard earned penny.
the posters they sell from said catalog and on line but subsrcibers get them first as a chrismas gift. an this yars was a good one side a was orange crate and the flip was the sam baris merc but their big news in the catalog was the book of the complete run of throttle. but all that is avaible right now is some tie-in t shirts
