Holt shit,,,,there is a drag strip in Kuwait somewhere. I was going to work the other day and past a truck pulling a trailer with a 69 Camaro on it with big slicks on the back and a blower and injector scoop sticking out of the hood. I waved them down. The guys could hardly speak English, they were Kuwaiti, but they told me (best I could understand) the track was somewhere along the Saudi-Kuwaiti border. I'll have to go see if I can find it when I get a chance.
Probably in Saudi Arabia, In Bahrain you got a Formula 1 track that sometimes are used as a dragstrip. Here you got some pictures from a Swedish dragraceteam who got invited. http://www.fastfreddy.nu/2007/Bahrain/index.html http://www.fastfreddy.nu/
Those people are all well off because of the oil terminals, and they love their cars, but they do not know how to drive. I watched a documentary once, junkyards filled with new luxury and sport cars, all smashed to hell. They don't fix anything. Just go and get a new one.
There are a lot of very expensive, very quick, race cars over there; all imported from America. No idea who maintains them. If you were stinking wealthy, and bored, what would you do ?
The Aussy V8 Supercars have a round there every year, watch it on TV and it looks like 6 people turn up to watch. NITROFC, where the hell did your buddy find a tree over there to take a pic of?
HAHA! Dubai has to have the nicest cars i have seen while out of the states. it is unreal the cars you will see cruising thru town. many more exotics than i've ever seen in one place. they use mercedes for taxi cabs..... must be nice to own an oil field eh?!
I spent a couple of weeks in Istanbul, Turkey back in '92.....tuning on American muscle cars for a wealthy Turkish collector.
yep,....and oldtimers still complain on net forums that those 'non-cat intestine reigns' just AINT TRADITIONAL enough, and spend inordinate amounts of time bagging (sand-bagging? ) a publication called "oldskool humps", while maintaining that they've NEVER bought that sacriligious crap!
Pat Musi's old car is over there. There was a video floating around claiming it as the fastest car in the UAE or Bahrain, or sand....but i cant seem to find it now but heres a couple others. google bahrain drag racing and youll find it all http://crackle.com/c/Sports/Bahrain_Drag_Racing_1/2007122 http://www.youtube.com/v/NLcdJ40L0kw&rel=1
I was in kuwait for awhile. Never saw any American cars other than old chevy caprices. The people over there are extremely rich. You could sit in front of the mall and watch hot girl after hot girl drive by in a Lamborghini. Its probably less than 20 percent of the population that actually covers up with the face veil.
Just like over here, spectators get all jazzed up by the track then go nuts on the street http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6GNB7xT3rNE
Why dont we hear about his in the news. All we hear is "The people are dirt poor and were messing it up for them." Weird. (not trying to start a political discussion, just observing and thinking out loud.)
We're not fighting in Kuwait. Kuwait (and Dubai) are extremely rich countries. Afghanistan is dirt poor...
Cool... A good friend of mine is over there right now on a tuning Mission...should be home for a bit in a few weeks for the Holidays, then off to the Sand box again for a while. His Name is Frank Gibson. He's a super cool cat...if any of you boys "over there" happen to find yourselves at the strip...he will be probably the only 6'8 200+ pound white guy in the pits. Stop by and shake his hand. He's as funny as he is funny lookin.
