Hey everyone, Andys folks are going to Florida for a well deserved holiday. Time for some good quality time enjoying the wonderful things a young boy should...........Disney, Sea World, and the many many other things that make you forget the outside world. So Andy wants to know......................well his dad (chris) asked....Are there any car events, cruise nites or speed/hot rod shops they can go to while in the area. Thanks so much for going the extra mile for my little buddy, You make a huge difference to the at***ude of this young man. Reguards Leon House
There is a cruz nite at "Old Town" in Kissimee (sp?) every Friday and Saturday nites. I believe Friday nite is muscle cars and Saturday nite are the older ones. Someone can correct this if things have changed. Wishing the whole family the best time possible.
I've been there before. It's pretty cool. It's been years. The tri five chevys were popular there when I went.
I went a few Saturdays ago, it'd be great for a kid. They have carnival rides, and they have a kinda parade through the fake downtown area just as it's getting dark. Little bit of everything, from stock Model A's to blown Camaros
I might suggest Universal Orlando, if they can squeeze that into the time/budget....& the Hard Rock Hotel is cool to look at, if not actually stay there. Lots of rock & roll stuff to check out. BTW, if you actually stay there, then you get to go to the front of the line at every Universal ride/attraction, all day, every day (Universal Express). Very cool & beats the **** out of Disney's FastP*** system.
Aloha I have condos that I rent at Cocoa Beach, (closest Beach to orlando) Depending on the time I may have some availability and I'll give a special HAMB discount ! My web address www.surfinvestments.com Let me know Bill
the kissime show Denise mentioned is what they should do.. A wide variety of cars and it is pretty big from what I have been told..
I hate the Old Town Cruise but it's regular, like Wilfred Brimley's number twos. I don't go at all anymore, but it's cool for out of towners. The Garlit's museum up in Ocala is a must see.
A bunch of us are heading up to Orlando on Friday morning to attend an Easter weekend rod run. Some of the Draglinks will be there as well. If interested, shoot me a pm, and I'll forward you my phone number.
Isn't it our duty as HAMBers to expose this young man to the finer things in life? I mean, he can see the corporate Disney stuff at home on TV, but where else can he experience the Garlits museum - with Nads as his tour guide? Do the right thing...
The "Old Town" cruise Sat. nite is only a couple miles from Disney. If you want to hook up over there I'll ride you all through the parade lap in my 49 Hudson. Depending on what your schedule is there is a Mustang&mustangs car show on the 14th at www.fantasyofflight.com (All Ford cars and WWII Mustang fighters). I'm gonna do you one better though. You guys get over here to Fantasy of Flight (about a 20 min. drive from Disney) anytime that will work for you, and I'll get Andy a ride in a 1929 New Standard open ****pit biplane. http://www.waldowrights.com/ Lots more cool stuff for kids here too, simulators, interactive displays, etc. PM me some contact info if you think they'll be interested.
NO NOT miss the Don Galits museum of Drag Racin in Ocala Florida. It is simply awesome. He laso has a wide selection of older restored cras on site.
Like a broken record I'll give Garlit's Museum in Ocala a big thumbs up. No where will he see the spectrum of cars than there. If you get lucky they might even get to see and talk to the MAN himself. It's happened twice for my wife and I. If he's in town he's always in and out of the store or working in the restoration shop out back. If Don's not there I'm betting his wife Pat and/or daughter will be in the store and they are very pleasant to chat with. Don's mother used to be at the store quit a bit but I'm not sure she is still doing that. Anyway, here's hoping they all have a great time and bring back some stories of their travels. Frank
Andy is in the air right now. They arrive in Florida this evening and will be staying in Hanes City. I will be in contact with them every few days. Reguards Leon
Garlits is a straight shot up the turnpike from Haines City, less than an hour for sure, better than Old Town. I think he'd do well to have Nads as his role model.
Pick up a 'Cruisin USA' magazine. It'll tell ya every cruise night and hotspot in every town Florida, and Texas and Michigan and Iowa...etc, etc... Riff Raff
!!!PLEASE!!! get Andy to the Garlits museum in Ocala. It will be the highlight of his trip. I guarantee it.
I'm in Orlando getting ready for the IITSEC show. (military aviation training). The show would probably not interest him but we have a training center there and I'm about 99% sure I can get him a ride in a full motion flight simulator. I'll PM my cell number so he can get a hold of me if he's interested...
