A few of us are gonna go to the LACR Friday night drags, then go out to El Mirage when it gets too ricerocketalicious. We're gonna set up a humble bar, light a fire, get some music going, and howl at the moon. Saturday: sleep in, visit with old friends as they pull in, and cruise the line a bunch. Saturday Night: More grabass and shenanigans. Sunday: SCTA My camp is at the 'shoreline' to the north of the pits/tech area. All you HAMB fuckers are definitely invited to come on by and camp with us if you like. X marks the spot Luke's totally straight on everything he mentioned. The BLM is pretty tight out there, particularly on SCTA weekends. They're a little busy with all the people, and usually not in the mood to give out nice breaks. The rules there are pretty reasonable though, and if you comply, your trip will be more pleasant. -jf
[ QUOTE ] And this is a long shot but does anyone have GPS coordinates for the area. I'm gonna have my GPS anyways so I thought I could load them up. [/ QUOTE ] That topozone.com link in my post has coordinates. On the site, you can toggle between UTM, degrees/minutes/seconds, and decimal degrees. Hope that helps? -jf
[ QUOTE ] Some of us will also be there saturday, and if I can find you, then I can sort out where we'll meet for the Sunday crowd. [/ QUOTE ] The course runs generally southeast along the long dimension of the dry lake. To the drivers' right is the 'tower' side. To the drivers' left is the 'return road' side. Down each side are ballons that mark patrol points. How 'bout we meet Sunday at patrol 5 on the return road side? Your view should look like the photos here . -jf
[ QUOTE ] More input from the guys that have gone before please! [/ QUOTE ] Saturday is a mellow day. If you're a newcomer, it might be a little on the slow side. There's no practice - just tech and a steady slew of folks coming in to set up camp. I very much enjoy Saturday, myself. I sleep late and occasionally go cruise the line to see who's shown up since I last passed by. I'll catch up with old friends and have a beer in their camp. Best though, particularly in May, is that you get to see all the new cars that were built over the off-season. May is the best month for seeing the new shit. If you've got any other questions, I can try to answer 'em. -jf
[ QUOTE ] most of the specs will be on the West side of the course, I'll be @ the 3/4 mile mark like always [/ QUOTE ] Just read this again. I guess this means you'll be on the 'tower' side versus the 'return road' side? If so, it sounds like that'd be the place to meet. -jf
Jetfuel, Skip et al. ARE on the return lane side. Hilymay & I will be there asap after the Early Ford swapmeet in Upland.
[ QUOTE ] Jetfuel, Skip et al. ARE on the return lane side. [/ QUOTE ] Ah. Okay. Alrighty then. See you kids there. -jf
what time does the racing start and end on sunday? if I can get some mini bikes running sat we'll come out sunday.
[ QUOTE ] what time does the racing start and end on sunday? [/ QUOTE ] Racing starts at 8am if I remember correctly and goes until the volunteers get tired, mother nature decides otherwise, or there are not enough cars still interested in running. Assuming the two former hold out, the latter should occur around 3pm for a May event. -jf
Just a few days to go ...bringin it back from the depths...Anyone else?? Alot of HAMBers will be there... we need more PM Jet Fuel for a map...

THought I'd check in since I started this thread. I've been up in Big Bear 4 wheeling since Thursday so it's been hard to check in. I've spent today sicker than a dog. Started feeling it last night. Nothing like being sick by yourself and 2 1/2 hours from home. And to top it off I smacked a tree yesterday and f'ed up both doors and the rear 1/4 panel on the passenger side. So if I don't show up tomorrow, you guys will know what happened. Rick
Thanks to desertratrodder for the excellent BBQables, to droptank for the cold cold beers, and Thom for breakfast. I also applaud Rix2Six for making the trip despite feeling like he'd been hit by a Buick. I haven't laughed so hard and enjoyed such senseless shenanigans in too long of a time. It was great sharing camp with you jackasses and look forward to doing it again in the future. The beginning of a great weekend: Brian's car in the foreground. Brian on my car behind that. Nash Hill behind that: Camp Saturday night: A day at the races, SCTA style: -jf

It was such a pleasure having you guys, Marky. Hope to see you next month. We're gonna come out Saturday night straight from the Rat Fink show. We're going to try to be somewhere in that general area again so we'll be easy to find. -jf

[/ QUOTE ] Me & My girlfrined, Vanessa, were in the back of the truck and Gay Ass Matt was riding shotgun when Thom ran himself over from the driver's seat. Sadly there were no cameras at the time. Mine never made it out of the truck all weekend. Best weekend I've had at El Mirage in a long, long time - thanks to all the guys who showed up. Tackett
