I was finally able to lay down some cash for a set of WWW Firestones for my Shoebox. I am on a mission to get my ride back on the road as soon as possible but I ran into a dilema. I thought I had 15 x 6 rims on my car. I could have sworn that is what I bought 8 years ago when I ordered them from Wheel Vintiques. I had ordered them with a custom offset as to not rub on the other rear body as much. Well, I pulled off the radials I had on them and discovered they were 7 inches wide, not 6. My question is how will the 6.70-15 look like with 7" wide wheels. I know they will fit per specs chart, but how will they look? They are Gennie wheels and I will be running an early Ford cap and trim rings. Will they look too balooned out? Do I need to sell these and get a set of 6" or 5" wheels? I hate to tear the wrapping on the Firestones only to find out they will look like crap.
The tire will be a little more "spread" at the rim than if they were on 5s or 6s, but it won't be real noticeable. I wouldn't spend the money to replace your rims.
As I recollect, tires with a "spread" are VERY traditional! I can remember in the 60s we were widening rims, but could'nt get wide tires then, soooo.......
With about 4.5" of tread width, I think the 7" rim with will create too much of a "spread." There is a car in town running that exact combo, and I always though it looked wrong. But I'm still running ugly radial WWW - so what do I know.
i have 4 stock 1949 ford 15" inch rims i don't need, i found a pair of 15x 6 at the local Pull-a-Part here in Tacoma. I'm running front disc brake conversion with a Jamco front set up. The yard where only 10 bones each, and the 6.70x15 Firestones (3 1/4" wide white) the spread was just fine. I ordered another tire.
Thanks for the all the replies guys. So if I later convert to a disc brake set up, I would need to change out the stock rims? What width where the OE? I have the same 3 1/4 WW.
