What Hemi will fit under a stock '32 hood?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by hemisteve, Nov 27, 2007.

  1. Will any of the smaller Hemis fit inside a set of stock '32 Ford hood sides? I have a set of 25 louver sides I want to run and have been thinking about throwing a hemi in my new '32 sedan (with my handle I should :D)

Anyone running one that doesn't need blisters, openings or no sides at all?

    Thanks,
    Steve

I don't know for sure, but I think the baby hemis will fit under a '32 hood. The Chryslers definitely will not. And with 25 louvre hoods selling for $5k or so, I'd have a real hard time cutting one up.

Check with Andy in Kerrville TX. His 32 Ford roadster has a Dodge Red Ram hemi in it.
The DeSoto/Chrysler hemis will not fit under the hood of a stock 32.

  4. Steve,

There's a picture of a Deuce with a stock hood in Tex Smith's HEMI book. It has a Redram 241/271 Hemi and it fit's.

Here's a pic of my 5W with a Chrysler 331.......NO FIT ! Notice the Aluminum Hood Blisters.

    Hope this helps, Johnnie.

  6. I've seen a 32 with a DeSoto and the stock hood sides fit.
    HemiDeuce.

  7. That's encouraging - I was leaning towards a Desoto.

Yep they fit, tight but fit! Are you going to recess the firewall?

  10. Whatever it takes - would like to retain as much of the "look" of the factory firewall as possible - right now the car has a flat one but I'd like to replace it.

    Thanks,
    Steve

What I should have said you just have to modify the original one a bit. Both end boxes need to be cut and pushed flatter or notched . It depends on the trans what you'll have to do to the bottom . My firewall was hacked up and so I cut the bottom and push it flatter.. I ened up with more room and almost too much.. He's my cabriolet with a redram 241ci.
