Actually one of the best early 60's mild kustoms there IMHO. Nice work! Twas a sea of billet & gold chains aside from the impala & the Outkast bunch. Speaking of the Outkasts...damn fine cars! Saw Big Ric's 40 in person as well as a few sweet a-bones & some nice early 50's chebby taildraggers. Definitely worth the price of admission to see these cars alone.
so is the grille 59 imperial? 59 chev front bumper?, or something else? Could you post a front shot? ... and are you going to lower it? Nice job at nailing a 60's style custom- the car looks great. Whats under the hood?
I have to appologize...I may have left drool on the p***enger quarter panel when we were there thursday Nice custom! Beautiful car and it needed to be there finished or not!
Admission is 14 bucks if you buy yer ticket thru O'Riley Auto Parts (if you can stand walking into their store) or 16 at the door. Not sure if the Outkasts will be there today or not, but I would think so.
Houston AutoRama USED to be THE show here in Houston...there were tons of very fine cars everywhere, and I spent days that this event. Now it is simply an annoying waste of time; full of car stereo vendors trying to blast each other out or the likes of vendors that sell under-car neon kits (and gold chains). I would never consider putting a car in AutoRama ('cause I'm an old fart). Patrick PS: Your Impala looks nice!
After an allmost a decade year away from the Autorama, I went last year. What a bunch of ****. There were maybe 10 hotrods in the whole place. I'm not joking. There was even a display with a bunch of new corvettes in it with slightly different rims being the only difference (that I could tell). There was a mini-trucked astro van as well. I'll say this and then leave it alone. The demographic has changed.
I'm in the Vintage Chevy Club, and we have a display with 6 cars every year, I really enjoy BS-ing with everyone. Saw your car, even snapped some pics, looks great! Also met a bunch of heathens, you know who you are!
Wow! Thanks for the kind words everyone. My car's not worthy! Here is the front pic. I will add chrome expanded metal behind the grille and lower the car a few inches. Yep, '59 Imperial grill (nobady guesses it - they think '54 Chevy), '59 Impala front bumper -molded with the license plate cutout removed, '60 El Camino front bumper and '59 Bonneville taillights with flat red plastic centers. Inside is pearl white tuck 'n' roll with Impala Super Sport buckets and chrome top bows, sterring column and instrument cluster. Like I said, I didn't get done (I didn't even wash it or clean it up), but I wanted to take my car anyway. The interior shots are old. -Mike
Very nice Impala! I've heard that putting a car in the AutoRama is a h***le. I may do it when my T Bucket is done and just want a heads up.
hey- chrome top bows! like I said this one is chock full of 60's custom tricks! I see you shaved the gas door, and moved the license plate to the elco rear bumper, what did you do to relocate the filler? I am thinking of this on my 59...
Thanks for the compliments!! Yes, there's a panel covering the gas filler and a cover over the cap. I just 'finished' the car on tuesday and never had to take the car to the gas station. I will take a picture when I get a chance and let you know how it works out. -Mike
Yours was One of the Koolest rides at the Autorama ! Very Nice . Early sixties look and a ready to haul *** stance . Johnny Deluxe
Appreciate it - I won Best of Cl*** (custom convertible). I don't car about awards, I just wanted to build something cool. I've seen a bunch of Impalas with big billet wheels (there are three '60 hardtops near me like that), mine's something different. I've been working on my car since April '03 and didn't know anyone building an old school custom (locally) back then.
