My '57 Effie is back on the shop table again, this time with a bigger club's help in el presidente's paint shop. First the interior, next either the engine swap or bodywork (re-work) and the new wiring kit somewhere in there. For the past month, been stripping the interior, finally got it in primer, Wednesday, now wet sanding, guide coatin' and some glazin' here and there. Got some Hippo liner to do the floors, back wall and ceiling. I've had her for 6 years, but never noticed with such clarity how the lines 'n boxes of the doors really flow with the dash and step. Originally we were talkin orange & black, but now we've decided 2-tone orange & creme, with a little black in there. Top of the dash and top "roll" of the doors will be flaked (over dark tangerine), Tropi Cali mixed with Agent Orange (medium & dark flake), base-orange below, black around those 7 lil' boxes on the doors, orange flake on the very bottom to flow with how the inward step will be...
REALLY gettin' psyched, just to see it in some sort of color beyond bare metal and old paint. Maybe I'd been too close to the reducer...
This was the still the story a few days earlier, just gettin the cracks 'n tight spots...
My own to-do list, taking advantage of my powdercoating day job, keeping track of our paint plans...
head Pandragger at work... I was planning on being there for actual primering, but soon as I got there fresh off Work, it was all a-glow in grey under shop light...
The plan for the steps is to really showcase the vertical part. It'll be orange flake, but with a scrolled banner with my club name (Tres) and my girl's (Tressa). Gonna wiring in license plate lights to help showcase it. Base of the step to be one color, bevelled lines on those steps to be another. Trying to decide on the black/orange/creme choices for that 2-tone. Ideas?
For exterior, the plan's been flat black with the bottom front 1/2 orange (curling around the doors, like Merc. trim), but now I'm debating creme & orange (the roof to flaked, either way. Got time for that, but what's yer vote?
After some glaze, gave the doors 'n dash a 2nd primer, only one more adjustment for the dash, the doors we'll be careful with. Came in Wednesday and saw this suggestion...
Interesting how we'd proceed with it, just like the stock look of the cab, too much. For the exterior, I'm thinking over a fade-job, from Tangerine Orange on top, down to Creme on the bottom, or around the fender flares... I know its down the line, but makes you think about the approach. Snagged my old chipped-chrome sidesteps, gonna powdercoat them, was gonna do it flat black, but should it be orange or creme? Maybe match the 2-tone (creme bottom w/ orange beveled lines) that the step of the inward steps will have? Anyway, progress movin' along quickly.
After paint and then bedliner (Hippo) for the floor, back wall 'n ceiling, we'll figure out how to set these T-Bird seats in. Who's done that, before? How'd you do it? Also have the upper curved "lid" that goes over the T-Bird backseat, gonna shorten its height to include in the cab, with the arm rest.

We were checking out Oakhurst when my bud called back in Humboldt, this weekend, "working on YOUR truck" as he put it. The interior paint was finally happening, damn I wish I'd been there to watch the flake fly. The originally planned white for the 2-tone wasn't bright enough, TOO subtle, was gonna try something brighter but subdued with a gold pearl. Maybe the orange base & flake would be laid out. Couldn't wait 'til Lunch break, Monday, to slip out for a peak. Opened the shop door and:

The plan is orange flake up top on a tangerine base, Escalade white midway, then further down black will background the orange squares (squares factory design in the door), then flaked bottom to match the inward step...

Cell phone's my only working camera right now, these don't do it justice but had to share...
The dash, which was flaked, was still covered. Still much more to do on the interior paint, redo the white because of the base showing through, after that we'll shut the doors, let it cure, work on lowering the bed before returning to it. Just PSYCHED!!!
Thanks, mixed & appllied by Conley Customs, brothers o' mine in the car club over my prep work. The last time he painted the truck, we were rockin' Rust Stop in a dirt driveway. He's since progresses by big means, always trying to take his ability further. Glad you like it, so far, I'm gonna miss it while the doors are shut...
Got lots done in the shop, today, after cleaning up the windshield with a razor and pads (looks the clearest since I've owned her), closed the door on it for awhile to move on to the bed. Clear was shot on it Wednesday, gonna let it cure while moving forward on other parts. Redid the white with Escalade White with gold pearl in it. A few last looks before the doors were shut...
