What kind of carbs would be best to run on my 6X2 Edelbrock Log Intake? Im installing them on my 394 OLDS. Holleys, Strombergs, 94, 48, 97???? Is one better than another? Which one are more reliable or should I say less troublesome. I know somebody that will sell me some Holley 94s. Should I buy them? Help a fellow HAMBER out please. Im excited that I bought the 6x2 but not to excited to pay $1000+ in carbs. But I guess thats the price you pay if you want to look cool.
If you want to really run six functioning carbs....I recommend that you get your hands on six good rebuildable carbs and rebuild them yourself...You are going to want to know those carbs inside and out.....I run the 94's and like them, they all will work thou.....A hotrod to me is all about Function, looking kool is a by-product of that.....If it looks fast it should be fast.........Their are alot of hotrods running around that are fake, that have lost the true meaning of what a hotrod once was ....But thats my opinion.........Set that puppy up and run all six, pay your dues setting it up...and she will run like a rapped ape..........Goodluck Littleman
I agree with Littleman on this one, and i wouldn't let anyone talk you into blocking any of them off. Blocking carbs off is as wrong as two boys fuckin!
pretty sure Mike Soldano runs six large logo 97s all functional, says when they all open up it's like a freight train geuss that's a good thing
I agree. I want to make my intake as functional as possible. I want to run all 6. Not like some guys that run 2 and block off 4. If I run Holley 94's, is there a certain kind or year?
i'll bet it will be a little cheaper in the long run to run the Rochester 2GC carbs. they are cheaper to pick up as cores and parts are easy to get at just about any parts store. GM used em in tri-power setups back when they used to do cool shit from the factory.
I'm not big on nonfunctional carburetors. Six 97s on a nearly 400 cubic inch engine should be streetable, especially if you run progressive linkage and start out on the center carb on each side.
I'm running 6 x 94's on my 394 and a progressive linkage which was a bitch to get working correctly, Mine runs on the 2 centre carbs and the others come in as required as my linkage is completely adjustable.
Form follows function. Simple rule to live by. Make them all work. I would go with 94s, thats alot of motor.
I've got four 94's complete with all the rebuild parts you'll need. You'd just have to acquire two more and two more rebuild kits. I'm in Gardena near Long Beach. Shoot me a PM if you're interested. Thanks. Ian
I am running six 94s on my 371. I agree with everyone, you have to run all six. It may take some playing around but it will be worth it.
I posted a similar question about my 324. Littleman convinced me to give the solid linkage (6x2 Gotha) at least a fair shake. I'll screw around with it for a while and see if I like it before trying to rig up some super complicated progressive linkage.
94's were made by 4 different companies between 1936 and 1957. The problem is they all had different CFM ratings ( between 135 and 185 ) Venturi's were different sizes too. It's real important that you start out with a matched set before rebuilding and enter the wonderful world of power valves! Terry
I have a Offy 6x2 for Olds that is drilled for 3 bolt carbs so I will most likely use Holley carbs on it. I need a Nailhead 6x2 for one of my projects, I would probibly use Rochesters n it if I can find 6 of them.
