Hey guys, I've got a chance to buy a '55 Customline 4 door sedan. It's all original (272 Y-block, 2 spd Fordomatic trans), with the exception of the engine being rebuilt and never really driven since then. It's been garaged it's whole life, all gl*** except the driver's window is good, chrome and grill is excellent. The body is rock solid. The carpet is currently out of the car, there's a little rust in the driver's floor pan, I'm not sure where that moisture came from, easy fix though. Do these cars have any collectibility? What's it worth, she's asking $1500 but I'm sure it can be had for less. Unfortunately I'm not a ford guy at all so I have no parts either. Thanks for any comments/criticisms.
yeah, sounds like a good deal on a nice driver; but if you are looking to buy low and sell high, this isn't the car...
not really any collectibility (as another owner of a mid-50's 4door Ford)...but the fun times you'll have driving it will FAR outweigh the small pricetag
We just told a guy he should be able to get around $8000 for a similar '55 Ford a few pages down. Has nice paint, tho. $1500 for an always garaged anything, short of a Yugo, is pretty cheap.
love any old car especially fords , be different that 55 would make a great driver . you wont run into yourself in a parking lot and you'll have the added benefit of driving something with more cl*** and style than anything detroit offers now . jusy .02 worth . p.s. i drive a 53 ford 1/2 ton daily and other than missing an efficient defrost and heater its thumbs up all the way . i'd never dirve a new one again unless i can get it for what i feel they're worth in s**** value , $ 5.00 .
Thanks guys, that's kind of what I figured. I can't be the only one who would consider picking it up simply b/c it's a good deal. I'd drive it but dang it I just have too many other cars going on, I'll soon be daily driving my '62 Impala and when I feel like being uncomfortable I drive my '66 Plymouth Satellite (big block, permanently semi-finished pro-street car). Along with that I have a ****py '87 Suburban that I'm trying to sell and a 1986 Chevy Pickup that I'll never get rid of. Oh yeah, also my long term '57 Coupe Deville that my brother and I have. So if I don't want my wife thinking I'm a total ***** I can't buy any more cars. My Dad really wants to buy it, but he thinks he may be worth adding duals, get it running and driving, then try to flip it and make a few dollars (realistically not much). The problem is I just don't have the time or desire to work on it right now so it's up to him. One of my buddies may buy it to use a daily driver, I think I'll encourage him to go this way. Thanks
' 55 Fords were 6 volt. Fords didn't become 12 volt until '56. And although they may look the same('55 & '56 sedans),most parts do not interchange. Parts from 2 door cars will not work in 4 door cars. etc . If this car is complete as you say , 1500. is a real good price. Junkers around here go for at least that when they can be found.
