351 windsor into 58' ford

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 55 dude, Nov 29, 2007.

  1. dudes! calling all ford fairlane owners. need some info on putting a 351 windsor into a 58' ford where a 352 formally was. anyone done the swap and have pic's. did a 57' ford years ago, put a 390 in place of a 292 and if i remember they were using ford truck mounts because they use single stud. doing some fab work is expected but getting the correct mounts that are closest to stock configuration would be nice. thanks guys:D :D

There's an outfit called Hot Rod and Custom Supply 800 741-4687. They have the bolt in engine mount kit you're looking for. It also comes with a trans adaptor plate. I believe these kits were originally produced by Butch's Rod Shop, now defunct.

  3. cool! i will give them a call. the trans on rear of the 351w is aC6. anyone else familiar with these swaps?

65 Galaxie 289 mounts should work, They have the stud you are looking for (no pun there!) You may need to drill a few holes but that is it. I did a 351C in a 58 Custom 300, but forget how I did the trans mount.

  5. thanks i will check into that. weren't the truck mount the same?

  6. Ford truck single stud mounts.

  7. do 289,302,351w blocks accept the same motor mounts? isn't the main difference of the 351w the deck height and 289,302 internal dimensions?

  8. I had a 59 with a 351W in it this past summer. Not sure what mounts they used, but it was a factory setup and it bolted in perfectly. Even had a T5 behind it...now the clutch cable setup wasn't quite "factory" however.

  9. check early granada motor mounts, I just used the mounts with the center bolt, but made spacers between the mount and the engine block to lift the engine about 3/4 inch. you also have to elongate the trans mount hole if your using a C4.

  10. anyone have any pic's of the swap or have access to any? were you putting a 351w into a 58' ford. the trans is a c6 that will be used. thanks and keep the feedback coming. anyone in the area interested in a get together? heard there is food and BREW! pm me if your interested:D :D

I did an EFI 5.0 and AOD into a '57. Front sump pan and '69 Bronco 302 mounts was all it took, dropped right into the lower set of existing holes in the cross member. Trans mount was the stocker, but had to be notched to clear the AOD pan. A 351W has the same mounts as a 302 and the C6 is similar, so yours shouldn't be much different.
