I was hoping somebody on here knew him . How about sharing a story or three? Do you guy's and gal's remember the time he was pissed off at some bikers? He layed down his bike on purpose after a jump to mow down some dudes, huge fight afterwards. The guy just had no fear.
I wrecked like 5 bicycles cause of him when i was a kid... He would be amazed to see what an impact he has made on pop culture, I belong to a buch of different boards covering all sorts of subjects and theres posts like these on all of them, he had fans from every walk of life... No one will ever have half the balls he had..... VIVA KNIEVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can say goodbye to him here.... http://www.nhor.org/visitor/obituary/obituary-details.pml?deceased-id=80951734
a true American legend and hero of mine, since i was a kid.... God bless Evel Kneivel. May he rest in peace. -scott noteboom
He's in the best hands now and has finally met his maker. A true inspiration for sure in the 70's growing up for myself. It's because of his courageous nature that inspired me to accomplish all the goals and challenges set before me. He wasn't a quitter and i admired that intensely. He believed that people who never risk anything in life, never truely live out their lives out completely. But of all his many stunts and feats he accomplished in his entire lifetime, the one that stands out to me the most, is the one that humbled him enough to except Jesus into his life this past year ...and to me that's incredible and a miracle in itself Godspeed my brother, CAB
</P>hell yes we did !!! i have the scars to prove it too. jumped my bike over an insanly high ramp made out of plywood, and cinder blocks. when i landed, the front forks broke, and went into my right shoulder. took over 200 s***ches inside and outside to close it up, and i lost 1/2 of my shoulder muscle. the scar itself is over 6" long, and it's all gnarly and jagged. the surgeons in the 70's were low tech. so it's pretty nasty looking. to this day i have major shoulder / back problems because of it...but if i could go back and do it over, i wouldn't change anything. in my mind, i was eveil knevil.....lol. also broke both hands and wrists at the same time in a different bike accident a few years later. that was a ****py summer. had casts on both hands and arms at the same time. that didn't stop me from riding my bike and taking the occasion jump tho. there were other bike accidents, but these 2 were my worst. i'm sure we each have stories like this of corse, none of these accidents kept me from jumping insanly high ramps on bikes or motorcycles......lol heck, today i ride unicycles, and can still ride a pretty long wheelie on a bicycle. long live evil knevil !!!!
Here is one of his last public speaking appearances, rest easy Knieval. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uZVNOGtEINw
think about it...he was hurtling a 650 lb modified street bike (either the triumph or the harley) over those jumps....with very little control. i remember him saying that he just held the throttle wide open, and went for it. of corse, he did know about breaking and throttling up the engine in flight to change the pitch of the bike. but still....it took a huge set of balls to do what he did....especially on those bikes. i still love the story about him breaking that writers arm for writing a book about him that was full of lies. they just don't make people like evil anymore...
I remember him pulling up next to me at stop light in a Stutz Black Hawk Convertible, bigger in life, smiled and waved then hauled ***. you wouldn't believe how good I felt. that was when he was waiting for him court date for whacking a reporter with a ball bat! he didn't **** around.

I saw him jump in the ba*****t of the N***au coliseum here in NY! He jumped a short line of motorcycles. His head was less than a foot from the ceiling as he was clearing the bikes!!!! I was standing on this temporary fence as he was walking past my father and I and the fence fell forward and I landed right at his feet!!! He helped me up and said something like "dont bust the gates down to get my autograph I'll give it to ya for free" or something like that. I still have the program from that jump. I'll miss him. Truly the king of the daredevils!
I broke my arm in 5th grade playing Evil Knievel. There was a wall about 4' high and 10-12 long jutting out the back of the building and we would run off of it and jump. Motorcycle noises and all. I crashed and burned 1 too many times. LOL Had all the toys too. What a guy.. Hate to see him go.
To a kid in the 60's he was a hero. Evil was fearless and a super showman. His memory will live on in all of us. chuck
My Next door neibor raced flat track against him in Wash & Idaho inthe early sixties. Evil wasnt famous then but my friend Gary said evils harley broke down and he needed a part and he lent it to him so he could keep racing that night with a condition he gave it back to him after the races . Well he never gave it back lol .
In the Guiness Book of World Records for the most bones broken. Evel was a man's man, even if his jumpsuit was designed by Liberace.... RIP my hero.
My first idol as a kid, surely a sad day. I still have my lunch pails and toys though! Rest in speed Evel!
I saw him jump 21 cars at S.I.R. around 1969 It was a hell of a thrill that I remember like it was yesterday.also rode my stingray up to Valu-Mart the day before to watch him ride wheelies back and forth across the parking exibition style.those were the days. F-head
I had the lunch box, and I had the motorcycle toy. And like every other kid in the neighborhood I didn't clear the three metal trash cans (pre rubbermaid). But I did get to have a beer with him in the early 90's at a local bar. R.I.P. Evel
one of the greatest quotes ever "DONT YOU KNOW WHO THE **** I AM?"... evel knievel you were a god a**** men r.i.p.
Judging from all the heartfelt tributes on here,i'd say he will,in legend.......RIP........chalk up another who had the lil windup bike,n fantasized on his bmx before tasting painful reality lol.. And as another great american original takes the ramp jump to the heavens, the greatest respect to a guy that lived life his way, to the extent that to hear his story makes you question whether you're doing all you can to really live your life, and by doing so be inspired all over again. Muttley, was just watching that ceasar's clip before i saw you'd put it up,man that impact on the crash, just incredible.... ....to be fair,i thnik its' amazing he lasted so long, guess that was the spirit of the man. As a uk guy,i gotta hark back to the wembley jump... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZZB9lnJFPc Saw this on youtube too, cool old 8mm film of an event featuring evel, and a cool old turbine dragster too.......evel comes in 'bout 3mins in,gives a good impression of the showman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe8a7MHEqUo&feature=related
from wwos, another (better) view of the wembly jump/crash... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gg9Hrp0CVms&feature=related
