All this S10 talk about frame swapping and i can't find S#!T on one that someone has done on a 46 1/2 ton Chevy. Is the track width too narrow, etc. ? I have searched the threads, maybe i'm overlooking it. Anybody?

They call this hot rodding for a reason. It mainly concerns things that weren't conventional that someone tried and either failed or succeded at. When you can't find information on your particular application it's time to do some "hot rodding" i.e. gather your parts, take some careful measurements, procede cautiously toward your goal. Fortunately there are only two possible outcomes.
    1. You'll suceed and be able to tell the rest of the world if you care to share.
    2. You'll fail and are then able to warn others of the outcome hopefully saving some wasted time for those who follow. However, don't think it will be the final answer because someone is bound to come along and prove you wrong.
Looks like your poised to "plow new ground". Be sure to post your results so others can benefit.
    HAPPY HOT RODDING !!!!!

    Frank

P.S. Don't be afraid of failing. Thomas Edison said (I'm sumarizing here) "I haven't failed, I've just found 2,000 ways that don't work"
BTW, Tom is one of my heros.:)

  6. I would compare track widths wheelbase etc with Clarks.

As for the idiot that slammed S10s, that only applies when someone is trying to drop a T coupe on one or something equally as silly.

you can always adjust a little on the widht by chaning your offset of the wheels. but there is only so much you can do with that even.

There has to be some Chevy Pick Up Purists site, where
you can find the dimensional differences between a '46 and '47.

Failing that, post a few key dimensions here, and maybe
someone with a '47 will measure theirs.

That year Chevy will fit the S-10 frame but the original S-10 mounts will nee to be cleared of the front area if I remeber. I help a guy in my are put an early Chevy truck on an S-10 chassis. The S-10 chassis is the working guys friend when it comes to being built on a budget. For any Fat fender vehichle these frames seem to be the best way out of spending tons of money. This is what some people are lacking. So why knock people who are trying to build a car or truck on a budget. Although I very much agree about trying to put a T Coupe on an S-10 chassis. That would be like trying to put 10 lbs. of Shit in a 5 lbs. bag. But there is a more modern frame that could possibly work under the T it is a Ford Courier fram. whit alot of mods these frames look very similar to hot rod chassis. They do fit under Model A s. Another one of those cheap way out guys who had me chase down a newer frame for his A coupe. Well I hope that this helps out some.

not knocking a guy for tryin to do something different and on a budget but 90% of vehicles ive seen on modern chassis just look strange and never sit right , kinda like seeing a transvestite hooker , you can just tell by lookin that somethings not right

I know a guy that uses them under 40 ford trucks, they have a good stance when they are done, they seem to fit decent after the new mounts are fabbed

A friend of mine here put a 42 GMC on an S-10 chassis. I believe he had to shorten it to get the wheelbase right & fab up some mounts for the cab but it was pretty straight forward.

What is wrong with stubbing the sub frame(using S10). It will keep my bed depth. I bought a reg cab swb s10 for $100 from a buddy today. I can use the leafs wit their mounts as well. Good or Bad idea?

A good friend of mine subbed his 50 merc, and had no probs. I going to set the ride height 1st. measure.......................measure again before we cut anything. I have put numerous frame rails in at work, so i'm confident that i can do it. Just looking for anyones opinions.

    Thanks Guys,
    Tyster

  23. dude! check out www.stovebolt.com and do a search on "frame swap" the thing about swapping frames is most people can't tell the difference and the rest don't give a fuck! it seems like people view a "frame swap" like someone building a 4x4 YUGO! go for it dude and post some pic's of your project. just remember: ask 5 times, measure 5 times and cut twice!
